I'm about to buy a PS3 and the first game I'll buy is probably going to be Tour de France 2012. I've read some reviews and some thoughts on the game on this site, but still not everything is clear to me, yet. So I thought I'd just ask.
1. I read that it's impossible to edit stats of riders, mainly because of trophies. Is it possible to play without the trophies and edit whatever you want?
2. Is internet connection required because I might not have a connection from my room?
3. Is the scale really 1/1? I know you don't play the entire stage but are the mountains really for example 18km long, which would be 180km in the PC Pro Cycling Manager game?
4. If you pick a team, can you choose what riders go to the Tour or is only the real startlist in the game?
5. If you can't edit stats: are they realistic? Can you win with Wiggins, can you ride a good Tour with Rolland?
6. I understand you can switch between riders after every playable section, but can you also ride the entire tour with only 1 rider if you want to?
7. Can you play with any rider? For example if I'd like to play with Kern (Team Europcar) and just want to go for the KoM jersey and a couple of breakaways, no GC, would this be possible? Or can you only play with Cav, Wiggins, Contador... the big guns.
8. What teams are in the game? Only the teams that were allowed in the real TDF, so the WorldTour teams along with Europcar...?
9. How long does a mountain stage usually take? Is it like more than an hour? (hope so)
10. How good is the climbing? I've seen some gameplay videos but it's hard to draw conclusions from that. You can attack etc, fight real wars with competition, but is the system well developed, meaning the yellow/red/green bar? Hope you understand the question, don't know how to formulate it well.
11. Mostly I'm just interested in the game to do real-scaled climbs that take minutes and minutes to reach the top, with some realistic attacks, chases, tactics. So do you think this game will suit me fine?
12. Is Contador in the game?
13. What about time differences? The scale is 1/2 I read, so are the time differences better than the PC version, real scale of also 1/2?
1. I read that it's impossible to edit stats of riders, mainly because of trophies. Is it possible to play without the trophies and edit whatever you want?
no, not that I know of
2. Is internet connection required because I might not have a connection from my room?
as far as I know it isn't required
3. Is the scale really 1/1? I know you don't play the entire stage but are the mountains really for example 18km long, which would be 180km in the PC Pro Cycling Manager game?
not sure either, but the stages are devided by parts which you have the availabily to play
4. If you pick a team, can you choose what riders go to the Tour or is only the real startlist in the game?
yesj you can
5. If you can't edit stats: are they realistic? Can you win with Wiggins, can you ride a good Tour with Rolland?
6. I understand you can switch between riders after every playable section, but can you also ride the entire tour with only 1 rider if you want to?
keep reselecting the same rider after a playable section
7. Can you play with any rider? For example if I'd like to play with Kern (Team Europcar) and just want to go for the KoM jersey and a couple of breakaways, no GC, would this be possible?
yesj, but you can only play as riders from your team (didn't really understand you question)
8. What teams are in the game? Only the teams that were allowed in the real TDF, so the WorldTour teams along with Europcar...?
every team that was in the tour
9. How long does a mountain stage usually take? Is it like more than an hour? (hope so)
I don't know
10. How good is the climbing? I've seen some gameplay videos but it's hard to draw conclusions from that. You can attack etc, fight real wars with competition, but is the system well developed, meaning the yellow/red/green bar? Hope you understand the question, don't know how to formulate it well.
.... skip this one
11. Mostly I'm just interested in the game to do real-scaled climbs that take minutes and minutes to reach the top, with some realistic attacks, chases, tactics. So do you think this game will suit me fine?
I think the hills can a minute to get to the top from what I have done, haven't done any mountains though
wow, didn't know I knew so little about the game, so why am I making a story from it
Right, I've just got the game, and I will try to answer some questions.
1. No, it's just not possible to edit... Cyanide did release a stat pack for a bit better stats. It does only cost 1.99 if I'm right.(Evans isn't good anymore there etc.)
2. No, not required, but of course required for online play.(Although yes to download+buy DLC's of course)
3. No. I think it's 1/2 or 1/3, not sure... Don't worry, you won't sit there playing 3 hours-a stage. I didn't play a lot of mountain stages, but I don't think they're longer than an hour
4. You can choose. If you want to go with a talent team of Lotto, you can. Not very smart though
5. After the stat pack download, they're decent. Not PCMDaily DB like, but they are okay. You can win the tour with Rolland, but you have to have some skills
6. Yes, you can just choose each section which rider you want to use. That can be the same each time yeah.
7. Yup, you can fully decide what to do. KoM sections etc are all playable I think...
8. Tour teams indeed
9. Not much longer than an hour, although you can spend enough time on them. I guess it's about an hour, since not every km is played.
10. Well, they're okay.
11. Yes, it takes some minutes to reach the top, so I guess it will suit you. It's just not 1/1.
12. Not sure actually... I think he's not, or at least not in the startlist. For example, if you use Sky, then you won't see him I think. The question is, what if you pick Saxo? I can't really answer that question
13. The time differences are surely more accurate. If you're in a break, 8 seconds in front of the peloton, and you look behind, then there's still quite a big gap. Can't say if their real-life or 1/2, I guess the latter.
Oh well, more questions...
Do not really feel like editing, so:
14. Yeah, in the PSN store. You can either buy a PSN-couponcard in some game stores, or use a creditcard.
Dauphine and Paris Nice are both about 5 Euro's. The stat about 1 Euro. So not expensive, but it's just ridiculous that they ask money for a stat update
15. Well, yeah, it is first person the whole time
16. No, not possible. I think they do use the TdF startlist automatically.

no, he was suspended at the tour so he isn't in the game ironcally saxo is one of the worst teams in the game
13. What about time differences? The scale is 1/2 I read, so are the time differences better than the PC version, real scale of also 1/2?
there are definetly better than the PC version, on the Mur of Bretagne (3rd stage) you can lose about 30 secondes max if you are with the lead riders at the foot of the Mur
