cyclingnews says a few things that I'm really liking:
Prologue, +2ITTs + Mountain TT up the Kronplatz  hopefully the final 24% ramp is included 
also, an ITT on the final stage, which usually happened in the Vuelta and was always exciting (then again that's because the Vuelta always used to have as much as 6 guys with a chance of winning the overall on the final day)

The 2008 Giro d'Italia will be noted for its time trials. Today – on a cool evening in Milano – RCS Sport unveiled the route of next year's Italian Grand Tour, which starts in Palermo on May 10 and ends in Milano on June 1, and includes 3423.8 kilometres.
Unlike the 2008 Tour de France, which has notably less time trial kilometres than recent years, there are 73.3 kilometres of the discipline that will appear in the 91st edition of the Corsa Rosa. Four time trials in total, one to start and end the race: A Palermo team time trial of 28.5km (stage 1), Pesaro to Urbino TT of 36km (10), a mountain TT to Plan de Corones of 13.8km (16) and a TT to the city renowned for fashion, Milano, on the last day of 23.5km (21). The Giro included a timed mountain test this year to the Santuario Di Oropa, but it has not seen an individual time trail on the final day in some years.
The mountains will make their impression felt in the Giro as always. This year there are three mountaintop road stage finishes to test the legs of the non-climbers and allow those who shine when the roads tilt upward. The Giro will take in the stage finish of Alpe di Pampeago (Val di Fiemme) on Saturday, stage 14, Passo Fedaia (Marmolada) on the following day, stage 15, and two days before the race ends, stage 19, to Monte Pora.
"It is a very hard course, and one that I like," noted last year's winner, Danilo Di Luca.
Non-mountain top stages will also be noted by the riders' legs, specifically the penultimate day. The final Saturday of the Giro d'Italia will cover the Passo Gavia, the super-steep Passo del Mortirolo and the infamous Aprica before arriving in Tirano .

TT up the Kronplatz and the final-day TT is back. hurray!
and the penultimate day is sort of a light version of the penultimate day in 2006.

There's still 20 km less individual time-trialling than the TdF! (Although the TTT DOES bump it up to a total of 101 km.)
I like what I've seen so far. I'll be having a proper look tonight, but it seems like both the Tour and Giro have interesting routes this year. Hopefully the Vuelta will follow suit! |

a time trial is basically a rest day. 40k for 8 guys, each one just pulls for 5k, so it's nothing

So will this be the Giro of the younger riders?
Let's see who we have for the overall, shall we?
- Di Luca with Savoldelli as backup. He probably won't be able to reach last year's level (the confidence given by winning LBL being the main factor)
- 37 year old Simoni with very little backup (José Serpa  ) and who said he isn't thinking of anything other than stage wins
- Cunego said two years ago that 2007 would be his last Giro for a long time, instead focusing on winning the Tour from 2008 onwards.
- Schleck will do the Tour
- Piepoli doesn't like the Giro, he only did it to help his friend Simoni. Given the choice he'll do the Vuelta instead (which is his favorite race)
so who do we have?
I feel as though Pelizotti will be much better than usual, but there aren't many more candidates.
Sella? Gárate? Gesink? Sorensen? Arroyo? maybe even Ardila or Rujano?
any thoughts on possible surprises?

damn...I wrote the whole thing thinking of Riccò, so I thought I'd written him in.
Nibali will be working for Pellizotti and isn't a good enough climber. not yet at least.
