after abandoning my moscow stars story i would like to start anew but seeing as though it would be you guys who would read it i wanna know what you want in a story.
Not only what team or division but a real or custom team, what style reporting - ie more/less pictures more/less writing and the inclusion of things such as press conferences and rider interviews. Also has anyone has any radical ideas for a different line a story could take or whatever.
any suggestions welcome
edit: also what DB are people interested in seeing and so on

IMO There was nothing wrong with your story, they were very nice reportings Maybe the reason, that it wasn't that successful, is the team you've chosen. I think you should choose a team with more popular riders. Good luck to your next story

Well, I don't know what people want in general, but here's what I like:
1. A team with an identity. I like the idea of a certain geographical basis of a team (like your russian team). If you don't limit yourself in some way in terms of riders, it's just too easy to become too good (at least if you play through season #2). The riders available in free-agency after season #1 = superteam unless you put some limitations on yourself.
2. One or two big name riders... but not a team of them. I don't like superteams... it's just too easy. But my story has a problem because nobody knows who any of my riders are (except one guy who seems to like Daryl Impey). Heck, I don't know who my riders are either... I just know they're not european and were all free-agents before the season.
3. I really like what A. Schleck did where he only focused on one race when multiples were being done by his team at the same time, just listing the results from the others. The story seems to flow better that way, and the season can advance quicker. I'm not even against brief reports of any race that your team isn't competitive in... we're reading about your team, and if nothing interesting is happening for your guys, why bother reporting? |

I like:
- real teams, not made up ones.
- Normal reports, not like put into a photoshop type screen (don't know why, i just don't like it)
- DB is the story-man's personal preference, at the minute i think PCMSpain is the best by a mile for PCM07, but as i said, story-maker's preference.
- stories that challenge the writer, i hate stories where people are playing on Normal and constantly winning. If they play on normal and are still doing badly that's ok, but if they're always winning, i like to see them change it up a notch to Hard.
i think that's about it

I actually prefer made up teams. (or at least teams that have the manager's influence on them).
The part of the game I like the most as a player is building your squad. Like to hear about free agent acquisitions, rider development and such. But that's something I have from years of playing different sports games. If I'm playing a baseball game I make an expansion team. If I'm playing an American College Football game I'll build up a bad team... it's definitely a preference. |

you can always play with a bad team, like currently i'm playing with Polygon Sweet Nice, who are really not the best team, and i'm building them up. You don't have to have a fake team to have a bad team

more opinions? well, there's only one thing I can think of, but it's pretty important for myself.
realism
stories that start with "I've signed Anuar Manan, RĂºben Reig, Chris Hoy, 3 random free agent youngsters and [insert random youngsters or track riders that would never be sign-able in real life]" are the cue for me to never open that thread again.

The best story to do is a story you enjoy.
Its all very well having realism, but it's no fun if you just cant get many decent results with the riders on offer.

exactly. nothing else needed to be said.

but then you had to go on and say that, didn't you?
YOU don't like it if you're not winning. I couldn't care less about the results. a story about a team that wins nothing can be just as appealing to me.
EDIT: I just noticed you signed a few of the riders I mentioned in your story. nice coincidence, but just that. a coincidence. I wasn't speaking of any specific story.

I need wins for motivation
And as a British team Im perfectly entitled to buy Chris Hoy I did my best to keep it to Brits/Belgians but Pliuschin and Manan are two riders I like and who are needed for my aim of promotion.

hey, it's your team and your story.
I was asked what I like and so I answered

Back on topic:
A good story shouldnt have too many needless images. I prefer stories that dont overload each post with images that are often not needed - for example your rider getting 3rd in an intermediate sprint and 2nd in another. Instead of posting 2 images just use 1 line of text.

ok thanks heaps everyone, i hope to start something soon.
one more question
Do you think it is better to focus solely on your riders and teams results and performances in races or to document what other teams and riders are doing in races and in general?

A few reports about what else is going on in Pro Tour for example won't hurt
