Caterham - Austar Cycling Team
Welcome to the headquarters of the Caterham - Austar Cycling Team!
We are a new WorldTour team, which was grounded at the end of 2011, when the UCI collapsed and the world of cycling got organised by a mysterious man. They only call him TheManxMissile.
In this thread you will be able to follow the beginning of a new era in cycling. We are hoping to be a big part of it with the team, and we couldn't do anything without our sponsors:
Spoiler Caterham Cars is a manufacturer of specialist lightweight Sports Cars based in Caterham, Surrey, UK. They are mostly known for their beautiful sports cars and their Formula 1 team. The team competed as Caterham for the first time in the 2012 Formula One season, following the renaming of the outfit that raced as Team Lotus in 2011. Now, they are hoping to reach way bigger success in cycling than they did it in the Formula 1.
Spoiler Austar is an Australian telecommunications company. Its main business activity is Subscription Television but it is also involved with internet access and mobile phones. It was founded in 1994 under the name Community Entertainment Television (CETV). They are hoping to get famous in the entire world thanks to this cycling team.
Minor sponsors
Spoiler Origin is an Australian energy company headquartered in Sydney. They are one of our minor sponsors, so we are hoping to make them happy with some grear Aussie riders.
Spoiler Serco Group plc is a British government services company based in Hook, North Hampshire in the United Kingdom. Among their operations are public and private transport and traffic control, aviation, military and nuclear weapons contracts, detention centres and prisons, and schools. They are our other sponsors from Great Britain, our main focus territory.
Spoiler
British NC
Slovenian TT NC
You can start getting familiar with this jersey, since you will be seeing it a lot in the television and the news headlines. The design was made by a well-known designer, FroomeDog99.
Our sponsors give us great financial status, but they also have high demands regarding our team roster. Our tw main focus countries will obviously be Great Britain and Australia with minor focus on Spain, thanks to our nationality.
Further informations about the team, like the draft, the full roster, interviews, results, etc. will be posted in this thread.

As some of you probably already know, the team management had to make a tough decision.
Either we could have stayed in London, fighting with the other Britain based teams over the few outstanding British talents, or we could just open to another huge market. We had to make a decision quickly, the clock was ticking.
We decided to make the move, so the management gathered their belongings and families, and took the first plane to the beauteous city of Barcelona.
This way, the nationality of the team has changed to Spanish. This does not mean that we will abandon the requirements of our sponsors. We are still a team based on and , but we are now fully eligible to have a bigger part of our squad from Spain.
Interest in Karl Hammarling
We have recently found out about a 28 years old - yet really promising - classics rider from Great Britain, and we are currently in talks with his personal manager. We are probably willing to offer him a leading role in the cobbled classics, depending on our transfer season. We will keep you updated about any news.

Today i am proud to announce that i have signed with Caterham-Austar for the forth coming season.
They made me a solid offer with nice incentives and bonuses.
This is a 2 year contract which i hope will see bag some good personal results, and help the team to WT success.
Negotiations went easily and the whole set up here seems very nice and friendly. It should be a good place to work and race.

With our first signing, we have managed to get a really good GC rider from our main focus country. He is the best against the clock, but he is also really good in the mountains. He is not young anymore, but he will bring a lot of experience to our team.
Ladies and gentlemen! Bradley Wiggins!

The fans already love Wiggo
Bradley Wiggins has arrived to Barcelona. He could barely enter our Headquarters, thanks to the over one thousand fans who were waiting for him outside. We can already sense the joy of popularity!

In the second round we aimed to sign a top quality sprinter who will get us the much-needed stage wins on the flat. However, this young german talent is the master of sprints even if the road goes upwards!
We present to you: John Degenkolb

Degenkolb celebrating his arrival
Our beastly german sprinter is already looking very happy with the team. He arrived this morning, and we celebrated it with a nice welcome party.
Everybody enjoyed it except Kelly - our beautiful assistant - who had to wash her hair after this incident.

Another valuable member added to our staff
This gentleman will train our team for the classics, where endurance, willpower and persistence are most important.
He knows a lot about these attributes, since he is a british triathlete. And well, he is not a bad one. He is European Champion, World Champion and Olympic Champion.
Ladies and gentlemen: Alistair Brownlee!

We were in negotiations with him, but he wanted to focus on his career in triathlon, however he accepted to work for a team as a part-time job. |

Amazing talent drafted by Caterham-Austar
In our third round draft list we aimed to sign another GT leader, but this time we wanted someone who is young, someone who has room to improve.
And boy did we find a good one!
We are delighted to announce the drafting of Thibaut Pinot!

Karl Hammarling
Hi,
I've recently been doing some press work and thought it would be good to share with everyone now. It was conducted with the teams Press Manager during my recent time in Stockholm.
"First of all, we are happy to have you in our team. You will be staying with us for at least 2 years, so the fans should get to know you better. So first of all, what can you tell us about your past, what are your biggest achievements?"
Well, i was originally born and raised in Sweden. My family moved to the UK when i was about 14. I've race bikes since i was 16, and professionally since i was 18. This was all just at national levels in both the UK and Sweden. I got a few wins here and there over the years, but my biggest results came in the last two years. Actually from Cross, which i do in the winter. I won both the UK and Sweden calendars. I guess thats what brought myself to the attention of the team.
My father also rode at a national level, as did my Uncle. So i have a strong heritage of cycling. Its in the blood.
"You have been with the team for 2 weeks now. Are you having a good time with us? Have you met all the important people (coaches, management members, ...) you will be working with?"
Its only been two weeks. I've met with most of the backroom staff now. I think its just some of the lower level admins and masseurs i've missed. Everyone seems friendly and are eager to start the season.
I've enjoyed myself so far, and its nice to train with such focus and support. I can't wait to know the full roster and get going with them
"What can we expect from you in the following season? What are your favourite races, and what are the ones you really want to attend? Do you have any races you don't like?"
I'll be targeting the Flanders Classics early on. I hope for a few Top10's. I don't think i'm quite ready to podium yet. Its looking like i'll be leading them as well, so i hope to do the team proud. I hope you can see me on the attack a lot, and i want to bag a stage win as well.
I'm not a fan of the Grand Tours. They are good to watch, but no way could i ride one properly. I want my focus to be on the short stage races and one-days, but if i have to do a GT then i want it to be the Vuelta... lots of hills which i can do.
"What do you think about the recent draft process of the team? Is there any particular rider you would like to see as a teammate?"
It seems like the team will be looking for good climbers and aim at GCs. Hopefully Degenkolb can get some support as well. I'd like to see G come here to work with on the cobbles.
"Thank you for your time, we wish you a wonderful "at least 2 years" at our team!"
