Relative novice still getting used to the game. Question on hilly time trials - found one previous thread more related to mountainous time trials. For hilly time trial - like the Lausanne ITT at Tour de Romandie, anybody have a feel for what kind of equipment set-up is best to use? I've done a lot of experimenting but have had a hard time finding something that seems to consistently work. Thanks in advance for the help. |

Just the normal time trial gear works for me at that time trial. You always lose a lot of time on the first part of that stage, but at the final part of the hill towards the finish you normally gain even more than you've lost.

on hilly time trials allways save energy on the flat and go 99% on the hill(s) and you'll win for sure if your rider is in a good condition and with a good hill stat. |

Thanks, appreciate it. Been cautious about adjusting effort on time trials since I've proven to be poor at team time trials to date but sounds like I need to brush up and get on wiht it. |

My recipe on that particular time trial is:
Start 99% till you hit the bottom of the short descent, and then decrease your effort to 75% for the rest of stage. When you're almost at the top of the final hill just before the flat part before the finishing line, you can increase your effort to 99%, but consider how much energy you have left, you can gain incredibly much here if you time it perfectly.

I've actually managed to become halfway decent in time trials in the past couple of months. One I have not been able to master is the time trial at the Deutschland Tour. Anyone have suggestions as to how to approach it? Tried everything and I'm horrible there. Each of my riders always runs out of gas well before the finish. |

What I tend to do is set all my riders on experimental efforts. Say I want Evans to win a TT. I Will make all my other riders ride at say first one 80, then next one 70, 60, etc. Until one of them has energy left at the end. Then you find a good spot inbetween and it also helps alot if you have another decent TTer in your team beacuse their results will be close to what your main rider will be. |

Playing my first-ever season on difficult-settings with PCMSpain DB.
Had absolutely unreal success in afore-mentioned TT :
Rank Name Team Time Player
1 François Pervis DUJA - TAVIRA 30'41 Player
2 David Blanco DUJA - TAVIRA + 5 Player
3 Dean Podgornik DUJA - TAVIRA + 8 Player
4 Ricardo Mestre DUJA - TAVIRA + 28 Player
5 Daniel Petrov DUJA - TAVIRA + 55 Player
6 Andreas Klöden TEAM ASTANA + 1'06
7 Fran Pérez CAISSE D'EPARGNE + 1'17
8 Stefano Garzelli ACQUA & SAPONE - CAFFÉ MOKAMBO + 1'21
9 David Bernabéu FUERTEVENTURA - CANARIAS TEAM + 1'24
10 Andrey Mizourov TEAM ASTANA + 1'28
So no one from computer teams could get inside a minute from my Mo, Hills -55 flat TT specialist Pervis and even no hill, no mountain, no TT rider like Daniel Petrov beat every AI rider.
Who can explain the result? 'Cause this kind of unrealistic, unmerited success ain't fun.
P.S. I rode with mountain settings, was way back at midpoint ( before the climb ) but climbed some 2 minutes faster than the field in steep ramps.

I dominate as well on that stage. I set my effort at 75 until I reach the base of the hill then I set it to 85 until the finish. I usually place 5 guys in the top ten and with a big time gap between my GC guy and the nearest competition. |

I went harder throughout - around 85 until hill steepens, then 99 to the endline. That I could only do with riders who were having good day. Little bit more conservative with ones who didn't feel good. Still result was mind-boggling.
Could it be that my riders are much fitter than the field (as all of them are already closing on 20 race-days or even above) |
