Many questions surround this year’s squad with the transfer season looming. It seems the American core of Taylor Phinney, Tejay Van Garderen, and Danny Summerhill will stay on board. Beyond that, the squad could take on a very different look as the team manager is known for being active throughout the transfer window.
The two sprinters of the southern hemisphere, Matty Goss and Juan Van Heerden. Each have experienced great success in the old CT, and could be open to a return. Van Heerden, having finished 6th in the CT individual rankings in 2010 and 8th in 2011 is considered the more likely to move on. Tyler Farrar may be retained, but is open to a move to the CT to increase his opportunities to win races.
After spending heavily on talents like Thibaut Pinot, Andrew Talansky, Jay McCarthy, Kenny Elissonde, Travis Meyer, and Darwin Atapuma last season, Wikipedia has a wealth of emerging riders. Some will certainly be retained to lead the squad into the future, but others may have the opportunity to move on if the right opportunity were available.
Loans have always been a favorite of the manager as a way to help riders gain experience. Riders with a background that fits into the team’s approach will be welcomed if a fair deal can be worked out. Wikipedia looks forward to continuing strong relationships with PCT teams and hope to hear from them once transfers get started.
The team is known to be looking for another rider capable of competing in the GC of stage races and the grand tours. Rumors range from testing the free agent market, looking to lure a leader from the PCT, or even the possibility of continuing to focus on the future.

Rumor Mill: Frenchmen on the move?
Evian-MIAT are understood to be very interested in Thibaut Pinot. Their interest is understandable seeing as he is already a good climber and will certainly be a star of French racing in the future. This also means Wikipedia would need a huge fee, as well as a good opportunity to use that money for a deal to come through. If other teams could offer quality riders, that avenue is open.
If Evian are interested in Pinot, a loan may be the best way to bring him on board. The French project may also be interested in Kenny Elissonde or Matthieu Sprick. While both are in Wikipedia's plans, a deal could likely be worked out that is favorable to both sides.

Goss "could be a open for a return" - Oz is open, too
In a brief statement, Oz Cycling's manager TS Moha answered the news, which said, that Matthew Goss could be open for a return to PCT, if the offer is good enough:
"A few weeks ago, we said 'One can dream' when thinking of Matty to join our Australian project.. well, we still can dream and we definitely like the idea of Goss being available for a return to CT. That's better than nothing, but still.. we all have to await, how things look with the renewals done.."

The Pendleton's manager has signalled definite interest in Jay McCarthy in an interview with Cyclingweekly today: "Jay McCarthy? I can't lie, I'd love to have him on board. Is it a possibility? You'll have to ask Wikipedia about that..."
Cyclingweekly would like to do just that. |

Elissonde is certainly also of interest, although Sprick doesn't really fit with the planned structure of the team, though that could change. With money not readily available for a new team, Evian agree a loan could be a good option if beneficial to both sides. |

Recently the new PCT team AMEXpc's team manager was asked about seeking out riders on PT teams that they could possible loan in for the 2013 season. Haly quickly answered:
We would like very much to forge a strong relationship with Wikipedia. We have a great deal of respect for thier team and thier manager. Without a doubt they have some of the best young talent in the PT. The colombian climber David Atapuma would blend in with our roster very easily. The South African Van Remsberg would also be a nice addition as would Jay McCarthy.
Are there any other Wikipedia riders who you would like to see riding from AMEXpc. Yes that's easy most of them, but one young American who does not seem to be an ideal fit on the Wikipedia team is Danny Summerhill. On the AMEXpc team he could be a team leader. I am sure during the transfer season we will talk about Summerhill, but as you know the brand new PCT teams have no quality riders to offer and not much of a budget to play with either, so we will have to see, but Summerhill would be a perfect transfer target for us. |

McCarthy Happy With Wikipedia
With reports of interest from Pendleton's, Australian talent Jay McCarthy has reiterated his commitment to Wikipedia. "Obviously I spent last year on loan, but I really like the project here at Wikipedia. Pendleton's is a quality organization and are definitely on the up, but for now I'm happy where I am."
The team manager is known generally to be willing to deal, but values the youngster highly. "Talents like Jay don't come along every day. We know the value of having a high end classics rider in the hills, he won't be going anywhere unless we are overwhelmed by an offer." It is believed such a deal would require a big time rider coming the other way.

fenian_1234 has been quoted in this morning's Corriere dello Sport as saying he has been reading with interest the possible availability of Wikipedia's fastmen.
"A sprinter is one of Vespa's main priorities this transfer season. dave92 is a manager we've alway enjoyed doing business with - if the funds are there from the sponsors to make a realistic bid, the chances are high we'll be picking up the phone to try and come to an agreement." |

AMEX, Holister, a Threat to Wikipedia?
Every time a new American team enters the ranks, there is talk of whether their will be enough American talent to go around. Wikipedia's manager had this to say; "First off its great to see American cycling expanding, more teams will only mean more growth in the sport."
"In regards to competition, there are plenty of riders to go around. A number of Americans here are intrigued by the project and may want to give he PCT a try." American sprinter Tyler Farrar may well be on the move this transfer season, and American squads AMEX and Holister are known to be on his shortlist. Others such as Blake Caldwell and Ben King could also be available to move on.
Of course rumors are flying about the new American talents entering the pro scene, but the Wikipedia manager was not tipping his hand. "Joe D is obviously going to become a great rider that any team would love to have. We have no definite plans yet with regards to Joe, but there are a number of American talents to go around across the domestic teams."
While AMEX seems interested in a number of loan prospects, the rumors coming from their camp can be squelched as the riders in question would be unlikely to grow from a year in the PCT. "Danny Summerhill is part of the foundation of this team and it is hard to see him leaving. Any other ideas from the American squads are welcome."

AMEXpc would like Wikipedia to reconsider the loan of Van Rensberg to AMEXpc for the season. Consider that you curently have 8 riders at expereince level 3. That adds up to 341 race days committed to just leveling those 8 riders. While riding in the PCT will not provide as much expereince gain per race day but Van Rensberg would only need 42 race days on the HC tour to take full benefit of the loan.
The loan would free up 32 race days for your team, it would open an additional roster spot on a team quite full and Van Rensberg will gain valuable expereince as a team leader. |

You would of course have to make sure you had 42 HC race days available. |

That point has to be considered, but PCT teams are allowed to ride in 12 HC races in 2013. It might be close, but even if we had to fill his loan contract with a handful of C2 races we are sure we could get Van Rensberg to level 4.
We will certainly know the race profiles in advance of the transfer season so the final details could be worked out.
The ultimate decision will be what Wikipedia hopes to accomplish this season. Are they still building to a peak in 2014-2015 or are they ready to make a run for the crown this season. They have some great young talent but my guess is they are at least 1 more season away from attempting to win the PT. If that is the case then a top priority will be to build the expereince of all his non-maexed riders. They may not be important to the team's success on the road but leveled up will make them more attrctive next transfer season, possibly allowing Wikipedia to acquire that one last building block for the championship. |

Wikipedia reveal season goals
Top 10 team standings
The team just missed out on the top 10 last season but believes it can improve this year. The squad is headed by the American trio of Taylor Phinney, Tejay van Garderen, and Danny Summerhill. Sprinters Matt Goss and Juan Van Heerden face uncertain futures as the team looks to bring in another GC leader. Stefan Denfil seems to be the prime target of the manager, but there could also be a deal for a rider under contract at a Pro Continental team who may be better off in the Pro Tour.
Giro Top 10
Rumor has it Taylor Phinney is considering forgoing a chance to bring Wikipedia its 5th win in California in as many years. The time trial heavy Giro has definitely caught his attention, as he feels it represents a real shot for him to make a grand tour podium. It would be interesting to see Phinney face off with some of the punchy Italians in what is sure to be a unique Giro.
Win Tour of Tasmania
Phinney is targeting the Tour of Tasmania and believes he can produce a big result in the time trial and hilly stages.
Top 10 Paris-Roubaix
Danny Summerhill will look to put in a strong performance in the Hell of the North
Top 3 Chrono des Herbiers
Phinney will be the man here again, but strong riders like Jerome Coppel are sure to challenge.

Manager Assess Title Chances
The Wikipedia manager was downplaying their chances of finishing atop the season's Pro Tour standings in an interview during the Tour of Norway. "The season's been incredibly successful so far and we'll look to keep that up through the end of the season, but when you look at Koenisegg and the quality they have in the likes of Trofimov, we have to admit they look clear favorites at this stage."
In the individual rankings, American phenom Taylor Phinney still sits atop the rankings on the strength of his Giro victory and dominant Dauphine. "I'm proud of the kid because he faced a lot of skepticism as to whether he could breakthrough and win a grand tour, but all credit to him for putting in the miles on the big climbs to get better." With riders like Sam Bewley, Damiano Cunego, Tom Boonen, and Yuri Trofimov laying just behind Phinney many expect a dramatic close to the season in the race for king of the Pro Tour. "Taylor's been fantastic so I don't know if its fair to expect much more out of him, but he still has a few races left to do some damage in. He's gearing up for the Deutschland Tour after taking some time off and will be gunning for a team goal top 3 at the Tour of Tasmania. Both races really look to suit him so we're excited to see what he can do."
When asked about Tejay Van Garderen's encouraging showings early in the Tour of Norway, the manager explained "we hope the balance in the team will pay dividends and allow us a steady stream of points."

Congrats Dave, a well earned championship.
Things may bet tougher now that you are on top. Should salary negotiations put you into a blue funk, remember we showed interest last off season in Danny Summerhill and that interest is still strong.

Having gotten over our own confusion earlier in the week we, B3B, will make an official declaration of interest in bringing Washington native Tejay Van Garderen away from the WT. We understand it's something very unlikely to happen but like last season with Panayotov we are obligated by our sponsors into pursuing a move.
