I am an young rider (18 years), who prefers when the road is uphill - the longer and steeper the better. Up till now I have focused on school and ridden a bunch of amateur races - with good success when hills are part of the course.
A lot of people have told me that I should test my talent in a terrain better suited for me than the Swedish.
My good friend Allan had the same thoughts, so we decided to rent a flat in Lourdes at the foot of the Pyrenees. That should be good conditions both for training and learning the language of most of our new teammates on french Team Europcar.
I have always been fascinated by the Spanish mountains and look very much forward to getting to know them better. I have been promised a good chance of riding my favourite races Vuelta al Pays Vasco, Vuelta a Catalunya and Vuelta a España. Probably since most of the team are French they would rather do the French races anyway?

I am a young rider (19 years), who grew up on the Danish countryside. Since there was next to no busses I got used to biking everywhere and slowly I began to go faster and further until I ended up sometimes driving more than 200 km - just as transportation. Those alone trips across the country mad me love being alone on my bike fighting my way over hills and flatlands like a madman.
Now I want to do that even more, so when my friend Jacobsuggested we move to France to bike I was all in. A lot of people have suggested I should go pro when I passed them on the road anyway, so now seemed a good time to give it a shot.
I'll ride any race I'm told to and if given the chance I will try and win them all - if I can't win I'll do my best to give a teammate the chance.
I prefer hilly races like Il Lombardia and the Canadian Classics as well as short tours without to big mountains, for example Eneco Tour.

I am a 18 year old Fighter from San Marino, San Marino. With my Parents Owning the Hotel Rosa atop the Monte Titano I ended up having to climb this every day on my way home from school. This journey is one I started to do by bike from the age of 11, when I started secondary school and I have been climbing this every day since.
I've always been mad about cycling since then and it wasn't until i was preparing to enter the National Timetrial Championships at age 17 when I was spotted on my ususal training route. The Europcar Professional team came past me as I was going by the Stadio Olimpico and i managed to hold in their slipstream until the Mnote Titano where my home knowledge came into play and i managed to pass them all on the slopes and started to ride away from them as we reached the top. They quickly caught me again on the descent as tehy could take it in turns to push on the front but i'd done enough to impress them and they said they would happily give me a contract for the following season as it will gain them publicity and hopefuly i'll be able to achieve good enough performances to prove more tehn they expect from me.
My favourite races are the Coppa Placci as it ends in my home town, the Giro D'Italia as it's the closest grand tour and the most likely to hold a prologue in San Marino and the Strade Bianchi which is a race i've always thought i'd do well at.

Personal Background
James "Flair" Adams was born on the 11th August 1994 in London England. He got his first bike at the age of 7, but shown little interest until he was 11. It co-incided with his brother, Harry, hitting his own 7th birthday and getting a bike of his own. At that point the two soon disappeared into the near by forests for entire days, racing each other up and down the hills on the dirt tracks trode by walkers.
Neither of his parents had any interest in cycling themselves and so with no knowledge of any clubs or events for the boys to join, they spent the next years doing much of the same, gradually spreading thier range as they got stronger and could ride further in a day.
It was on his 14th birthday he got his first road bike, having been introduced to serious cycling by the Bejing Olympics. Track cycling seemed too expensive an option, but with some pursuading he managed to pursuade his parents to get him a road bike. His brother followed suit and the pair of them began racing along roads, enjoying the higher speeds the could reach on the smooth tarmac. Both were quickly converted, their free time becoming consumed with watching racing online or hitting the road.

Allan going (Down)under
Today was the first stage of the Tour Down Under. And a hectic one of that.
We had a bit of trouble with our flight down here, so we only arrived yesterday. I guess that could be seen today. I think we are all well aware that this wasn't the brightest moment of the teams history - but we promise you well do better - we didn't come here just for the warm weather.
Oh, I forgot to tell who we are downhere didn't I? We are actually quite a mixed bunch of riders with only three French. Apart from myself it's Sébastian Chavanel , Saïd Haddou , Angelo Tulik , David Veilleux , Yukiya Arashiro  and Rafaâ Chtioui  .
I'm told my young British teammate Flair Adams had hoped to start the season here as well. Guess something went wrong in the communication with the team manager? I'll have to look into this when we get back home to France...

But back to the racing. We had a pretty quiet day, though one of my teammates actually made it to the break. To be honest with you I'm not quite sure at this moment who it was, as everything was a bit hectic for me today. This was after all my first raceday on this level ever. This sure is something else than riding "Bornholm Rundt" back home...
At least I'm completely sure it wasn't Yukiya or Yusi I call him, who were in the break.
He was very good at helping me find my place in the peloton today, and we kept close right till the race finished. Actually all us non-french guys finished pretty close to each other. Guess it was a Frenchman in the break - they kept to themselves most of the day...
But I'm off. Need to get a good day rest before the stage tomorrow. Hope to make more notice of myself tomorrow than my 43rd place today did

It's been a busy couple of days down here, and I have a lot to tell by now.
Earlier this week Flair Adams decided to join us even though he wasn't selected for the race - that goes to show how well we're doing together on this team.
And he saw a good stage 2 with a lot of action. It was a quite hilly day, so a lot of riders wanted to show themselves - myself included. Though I didn't go in the early break: I knew that they didn't stand a chance so I kept close to the front and waited for the BOTD t be wheeled in, and then I started moving, while the locals where cheering their hearts out. Probably because Australian champion Simon Gerrans started the attack, but it was a great feeling none the less!
Unfortunately we were caught with just 1.5 km to go and since I had spent a lot of energy in the attack (and isn't much of a sprinter to begin with) I finished just outside top-20. But second day as best Europcar-rider is a great feeling, and with a bit of luck I could still have a go at the GC.
The third stage really wasn't much fun for us, but the sprinters on the the other teams seemed to enjoy the day. I myself kept quietly in the peloton and took full advantage of the day to speak to my teammates. Really it all started with Flair being disappointed about not getting to race downhere. I had a good chat with him, called Jacob Hägg back home and now I have talked t a lot of the other riders and they have agreed that I should be their representative in communications with the team management regarding season planning and so on. I'm very honoured they want me to do this and I'm all ready beginning to look a little closer on who shall ride when. By the way Hanzen won the stage (no surprise there...).
The 4th stage really went well until 10 km from the finish line. I had just started moving to the front hoping to be able to cheat the sprinters and grab the win by an early attack. I'm told O'Grady almost got away with it, but got passed while celebrating. I can promise you had I been able to make my attack I would have continued al the way to the podium!
But I guess you all have realized by now that things didn't turn out as I had hoped. Just after the 10 km mark people started crashing like the Schelcks on a wet descent, and one of them just hit the rear wheel away under me and I fell hard just as I had hoped that I had avoided the crash  I hurried to get back on the bike, but I had hurt myself pretty bad in the fall and couldn't keep up with the others in the hectic finish. I'm not quite sure how much time I lost as I was driven straight to the hospital after the finish.
Right now I'm sitting on the hospital waiting for the results of their tests, but I will do everything to continue in the race, but sadly my chances are most likely over. Now I just hope I can help one of the others to a good result

Hey guys, waiting for the race to start. Its another sprint stage today, some hills but nothing to hard. Hard downhill at the end so teams have to be alert
Action at the front, looks like its time for the days break to form. We dont have anyone going for it at the moment. #Stannard #Sky looks strong.
Break didnt form, #Kristov out on his own
Small break formed around Kristov at the front but its been pulled back. Still not green near the front, we seem to be struggling today.
#Griepel took the first sprint. Breakway might get away now. #Sprint
4 Man Break formed. Two of the Eusuktal riders are part of it, so it might not stay together. Frenchie in the break, but not one of ours.
Still nothing from #TeamEuropcar, but #Stannard of #Sky has just bridged the gap to make it a 5 man break. Said he looked good. #TeamGB
#FDJ's Geslin took the second sprint of the day in the breakaway. #Sprint
Boring mid-race stuff. Break is being managed, definately going to be a sprint finish. Just passed some water bottles out to the boys. #StickyWaterBottles
Looks like everyone is over the climb now, breakaway is nearly reeled in. Just the long downhill to the finish now. Its going to be fast I think.
Disaster for us, two of our riders were caught at the back as the pack split coming downhill. Argos look like they might try and pace the group back
Today gets worse. #GreatDane Gronborg just fell and is falling behind the pack now too. Terrible day at the office for #TeamEuropcar
Hanzen seems to leading out the sprint which is strange. O'Grady launches with 2.5k to go. Looks like a strong attack.
Moreno and Roux follow, the rest keep high pace. Sprinters are launching, lots of action.
AMAZING FINISH! At least 10 riders ahead of 1k, #Hanzen surges past them all to pip them at the line. O'Grady was celebrating.
O'Grady threw this away, he threw up arms before the line and lost due to it. Hanzen looks unstoppable. #CountingChickens

Today was a hard and decisive day with Willunga Hill. The stages I (like many others) had marked before going downhere.
But when I rose this morning I could feel last bit of my body after yesterdays crash - and it didn't feel good. Today ended up being all about survival!
I did OK in keeping my position in the back of the peloton, but I only just hung in there, so I didn't get much camera time today.
It proved to be a very expensive crash for me, and none of my team mates have really wanted to show themselves in the race this far. So in spite of everything I'm still best Europcar on 43rd stage 8 minutes after the winner - not that impressing I know...
I hope to be fit for when I am to ride Paris - Nice alongside Flair Adams - now I'll go out and get a Foster's to ease the pain

Interview with Flair Adams after Stage 5 of TDU
BBC Journ: Flair! Flair Adams! Can we have a word for BBC Sport
Flair Adams: Yeah sure, what do you guys want to know?
BBC: Can we get your opinions on this years Tour Down Under?
FA: Well obviously it was dissapointing for us as a team. Its not a great race for us in all honesty as we dont have any great sprinters. I'm not sure we even have any good sprinters! I'm just happy Allan was able to get back on his bike after the fall on stage 4.
BBC: Yes, that was a bad moment for your team. You seem to have struck up quite the friendship with Allan Gronborg, how is he after that crash.
FA: We are both new to the team so I guess its new guys sticking together. I'm currently only able to speak English so him being Danish and speaking it better then most englishman helps. [Ed - Lots of laughing all around] His doing good mainly just bruising some some superficial cuts. Obviously you could see today he was a little laboured at times but he rode it out like a pro. Its even more impressive as at Europcar we dont race on Cortisone even with a doctors note, so he would have felt everything out there today. I'd be proud to finish in that 3rd group one day after a crash like that.
BBC: When are you expecting to make your debut Flair, and will you be teaming up with Gronborg in the future?
FA: The answer to both those questions is Paris-Nice. This tour is more of a warm up for Allan, I dont think as a team we were expecting a massive performance here. As I said earlier, its not a race that really suits us. My training is going well and hopefully Allan will be fully healed from his injury by then and we can show the world what Team Europcar has been about. Now if you dont mind, I'm gonna go head over to my team to see how everyone is.

Finally. Last day of a terrible race for the team. Today David Veilleux found his way to the break. Nice that he could make sure the shirt was presented, seeing I didn't have luck with attacks in the first stages and since stage 4 have been suffering quite a following my crash.

Still I ended the race as best Europcar-rider (though that's not saying a lot...), but now I'm just looking forward to get some racing done back in France at Paris - Nice

We got exactly what we expected from the TDU... Nothing.
Our hopes for Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico are higher, but we are only looking towards some Top 10's in both stages and GC's.
The squads will be made known shortly.

Allan doing it alone (Paris - Nice, stage 1)
Finally time for racing in France. I feel good after my crash in TDU and is quite ready to redeem myself. We're starting of with a prologue. That suits me just fine.
With me in the bus are a good bunch of riders, namely:

In the GC Flair and Voeckler will be the guys to your money on. Especially Flair look really focused on the task at hand.
But now for the race.
I was feeling really good when I got on the bike. You know. One of those days when you could just be going for 500 km no problem. We wasn't going quite that far, but I'm very happy with being 6th only 9 seconds behind the World Champion  Tony Martin! Flair lost 21 seconds, but I believe he can win back the lost time later on in the race. For now I will enjoy todays good result and look forward to a lot of hard work tomorrow.

Terrible day today. Really was expecting better then that. The number to the left didn't mean much to me today but 21 seconds is a big chunk of time already.
Allan was great today though. He will be modest and say his just here to help others win but I think he has a good chance of doing something special.
That Korean dude was immense today too. Never heard of him before, his just come out of no-where. Contador looks strong too. No surprise there though, i'm sure his been eating plenty of steak.
Lets roll on the real stages and hope that with real distance to cover I can show my strength. |
