Today's stage is a FLAT SPRINTER'S ( ) stage and the 3 favourites, as given by the bookmakers Cyanide, are the 3 B's; Bettini, Bennati and Bäckstedt.
Weird choice of favourites, to me they are Bennati and Cavendish, but Cyanide never seem to get things wrong, so we'll go with them.
The break of the day formed after 40kms and included
Mironov (Telefonica)
Tschopp (Cycling24)
Arekejev (France TV)
Willems (Virgin)
Gardeyn (Carrefour)
and, Bonsergent (AG2R) is doing a "clever" solo about 50 seconds after them, and not at all looking like bridging, "very clever"

For some unknown reason the pack chased really hard and brought the breakaway back, no-one knows why, maybe the felt sorry for the AG2R rider, we don't know, but a new break formed.
Bernucci (Carlsberg)
Guedson (Saturn)
Lancaster (Fed-Ex)
Ratto (Italia)
Gardeyn (Carrefour)
Tschopp (Cycling24)
Mazur (Accumalux)
Perget (Virgin)
Mironov (Telefonica)
Furlan (C.A)
as you can see some of the early breakaway riders had the strength to get back into this group, and yet again some riders and chasing in front of the pack, these are
Haidar Anuawar (FloGas)
Capecchi (France TV)
and behind them
Mandri (AG2R)
AG2R are on great "clever" breakway form today

DISASTER for some teams as the pack splits on the run-in to the finish, those caught out are
pretty much all of the Cycling24 team apart from Piepoli
Cardenas (Carrefour)
O'Grady (Carlsberg)
Förster (Magenta)
Goss (Ferrari)
Weylandt (Carrefour)
Cooke (Telefonica)
Cavendish (FloGas)
The breakaway has been caught and it will be a bunch sprint but it's very likely the bennati will coast to victory now

So now that Cavendish and Goss aren't in contention for the bunch sprint, surely Bennati will walk it.
But no. He isn't within the top 20 riders at the start of the sprint. In fact there are no trains at all, apart from the relaying train, in which Wegelius leads out the sprint.
Vaitkus is on the right and could be dangerous, though.

With 1km to go and it's Haussler of Virgin that is leading, but he has Bettini on his wheel, can he come around him to claim victory?

Yes, Bettini comes around to claim the win ahead of Haussler and Duque.
It's worth noting that the group that broke off the back, did make contact during the sprint.
