Three great climbs are on the menu today. Pellizotti will be looking to defend his jersey, but it's going to be tought with riders like Klöden, Brajkovic, Karpets and A. Schleck only seconds behind him.
Here we are at the first climb with Telefonica leading the peloton. The helicopter is following the pack closely.

And here's the first break. It's a very strong group:
Eltink (C.A)
Marzano (Gazetta)
Soler (AG2R)
Gusev (Ferrari)
Zampieri (France TV)
Devenyns (Belgium)
Suaza (Cycling24)
Rujano (Cycling24)
Casar (Saturn)

The group wasn't working very well together, and instead Gusev attacked which resulted in a split of the group. Gusev, Marzano and Eltink broke loose, Soler is right behind them, Zampieri and Casar are fighting to get back, and Suaza is trying to get Rujano back in front. And the Belgian? Well, he was dropped as soon as the climb started.

Behind them in the peloton there's also a lot of action going on. Popovych and Arroyo started off with an attack which was followed up by Ardila Cano and Botero. But that's not it, Mancebo and Moreau, two "favourites", has opened up for today's action!

Gusev is struggling to hold on to Marzano's pace. Soler is still trying to get to the front, but he's losing time.
Surprisingly, Devenyns refound himself and suddenly started attacking like crazy. He's now in the same group as the newly-formed favourites group. The situation is pretty chaotic right now, so we'll summarize at the top.

Well, favourites group was caught at the top of the mountain, meaning that the race situation is now:
P -> 21 seconds -> Rujano (E5)
E5 -> 1'12 -> Sartasov (E4)
E4 -> 1'46 -> Soler (E3)
E3 -> 0'25 -> Gusev (E2)
E2 -> 0'44 -> Eltink, Marzano (E1) |

We're now at the foot of the last mountain. The peloton still got 3'40 up to E1. |

Lots of attacks!
Sastre started, and that has now resulted in breakaway attempts from almost everyone who's fighting for the overall win. A. Schleck, Menchov and Sastre are now in front, but Pellizotti is coming from behind.

Schleck and Sastre were not as strong as they seemed. Menchov has dropped them, and Pellizotti rode right past them.
Behimd them, a rather large group of good riders have formed: Cataluna, Intxausti, Marchante, Brajkovic, Karpets, Klöden, Gadret, Cunego and Ricco are all in the group.
In front, Marzano has just dropped Eltink!

Gusev and Sastre have now been caught by the large group. Schleck and Pellizotti are in front of them. Menchov has just caught Eltink and is close to be Virtual Yellow. |

Marzano made it over the last mountain alone! Menchov is right behind him, though. Eltink is now riding alone, but he seems dead. It's over for him today.
Cunego attacked at the last passage on the mountain and rode up to to the Pelli-Schleck group. |

There's only about 10 km to go. The race situation is still chaotic, but it seems as if Cunego, Pellizotti and Schleck will be caught by the group behind them. But Menchov and Marzano will make it to the finish line alone. And at this point, it seems very likely that Menchov will take the jersey too! |

It's Menchov the Cannibal! He rides right past Marzano. Poor him. There's just 3 km to go for Menchov, and he has a gap of at least 2.45 minutes. |

Menchov takes the victory! Marzano looks depressed. Lots of hard work was worth nothing.
The sprint has just started behind them. The Pellizotti-group managed to stay away from the large group, and they have a small gap of 21 seconds.

Cunego takes third! But they are 2'41 behind, and the jersey is definitely on Menchov now.
