There are three short snappy climbs on each of the 20km circuits designed for the Ukrainian national championships. The big star here is of course Jaroslav Popovych, though fellow protour rider Andrei Grivko has had his career moments and the upcoming stage racers Mikayil Krasnoperov and Vadim Ratiy should not be discounted.
We also have a full compliment of Ukrainians from the CDiv2 squad Metinvest with Ruslan Grychenko their big star.
Indeed Metinvest manage to make a decent selection early on as Grychenko gets clear with Juri Krivtsov, Popovich, Vladimir Bileka and Grivko.
Grychenko is really in the mood as he gets it down to just himself Popovoch and Grivko with 100km to go.
But the CTour stage racers Ratiy and Krasnoperov manage to pull things back along with the Bianchi riders and Dmitri Grabovski
Popovich has mainly followed the wheels of the Metinvest manauvers but ramps things up on the hills on the final lap.
On the penultimate hill it is clear that only 3 G's can live with the former Tour de France podium. The 3 G's of course are Grychenko, Grivko and Grabovski.
Grivko has tried to follow Popo all the way through this course but he cannot follow him as we go up the final climb. Grychenko and Grabovski in the battle for third.
It is a comfortable win from Popovich having fended off a spirited attack from the Metinvest squad and the defensive tactics of Grivko.
In the time trial we are expecting a pretty tight duel with Grivko
and Krasnoperov having decent results in past time trials in the sport of professional cycling
But both are trumped by stage racers Ratiy
and Popovich today. The elder statesman beating his heir by six seconds.
But it is no double championship for Popovich who will have to make do with his trade team colours against the clock as Grabovski show his specialism by taking a comfortable win by 28 seconds.
