It was a season of 10 wins for Jose Alarcon. 4 stages and 6 overall races. Having been 2nd to then teammate Taaramae last year, he has topped the Individual Standings this year. 2 years in a row he has been crucial in promotin a team - this time he should finally get his reward of PT racing action.
The surprise package Cesare di Maggio is 2nd. Nobody knew what to expect when he took to the start line in Tour Meditteraneen. He won the race. Certainly one of the signings of the season, and Venchi promote because of it.
With 10 wins, just like Alarcon, is 3rd placed Jonathan Bellis. 8 of those wins came in Africa - including a Boland clean sweep - while the other 2 were perhaps the most important. Victory on his home island in the Manx International, and the GC at the Tour of Britain.
Which rider won the most though? Danniele Bennati! He single handedly made many flat classics boring, winning 6 of them - and in total he has 11 victories to his name. Puma certainly weren't complaining, having paid a lot for his services!
Rounding out the Top 5 is Francesco Ginanni. After a shocking 2011, he started this season by winning the MTN Classic, and took 2 more stage races over the rest of the season - Luxembourg and Pologne. Vespa hoped for better from him though, that is for sure.
Dimitri Claeys, Domenico Pozzovivvo, Alejandro Valverde (the 2010 champion), Chris Froome and Luis Leon Sanchez complete the Top 10.

Cough...splutter...cough...too many race days.....
Well done to Alarcon and Aker though. Ember paid him a huge wage and that really did pay off, so well played.

17th for Vaitkus? Faso turned out to be a genius move for us.
Congrats to Ember for the overall, but also to Sykkel_freak for a genius signing in Di Maggio.

Yes - Di Maggio worked out really well. Should have been a Theo Bos type signing but went pretty spectacularly the other way.

4th for Bennati is definately the best a sprinter can achieve in this game, I believe
Congratulations to Aker and Venchi for their - although quite dissimilar wage-wise - promotion-securing one man shows, that was very obviously the way to go for the new teams

All hail to the Continental King of our (former) Bianchi partner team Aker
But woah just noticed now that the best Jayco rider is Impey on 34th but they took a 3rd place in the team rankings.

Rujano as my best scorer didn´t collect not a half of points comparing to Alarcon It´s impressive to see three riders from TOP4 belonging to new managers.
PS: I hope in Rujano´s revenge in NC

Shhh....
It was an outstanding season by Alarcon, and I might rank his first overall win, in Venezuela, the best. That race had everything, and it was thrilling to see Alarcon end as the winner there.
With the goals I made pre-season, Alarcon was the obvious signing. I was pretty sure he would give me a solid amount of points, and I thought he could challenge for a podium on the individual ranking. It's great to see him crowned the "Continental King," and he was obviously key to our promotion.
I must admit I'm kind of nervous for his wage for the next season though
