(This story takes place in an alternate universe where Nibali won the Tour de France in 2012. It will use the StanosCrossBase)
Hello everyone!
Firstly, welcome to my personal blog! I have started it up to hopefully raise my profile and keep my fans (if I have any right now!) updated on my results. Hopefully I'll one day become a Cyclo-Cross world champion but that is a long way away right now!
First, to people who have not yet heard of me (and I presume there will be many) I will introduce myself. I am a twenty year old Italian cyclist who finished fourth in the under twenty three cyclo cross world championships. I was noticed by scouts for Italia (a pro continental cyclo cross team) and I have now signed with them. Hopefully I will be able to ride well for them and help bring Italian cycling to the top of cyclo cross.
My main strengths lie in my ability to climb well. I can accelerate quickly and like aggressive riding! I am okay at cobblestones but I still have work to do in that area. However, a major weakness of mine is my ability to sprint. I am not very good at sprinting and that inevitably cost me at the world championships. I will work on it but I will never be able to out sprint the top riders.
This year I will be aiming high and trying to win a few races, however, there is more to come on my goals later!
As many of you will know Nibali won the Tour de France this year and I enjoyed watching his aggressive style against Team Sky. Hopefully I'll be able to continue this Italina success into Autumn and Winter...

Breaking news! Skoda has announced that it will sponsor the Italian cyclo cross team this season. With brand new star rider Vincenzo Moretti Skoda have stated that they will invest more in the team if the management team can take Italia to World Tour status. They said that they are in it for the long term and hope that with the funds provided the team will hopefully improve the standard of cyclo cross in Italy and the Czech Republic.
It also will be opening a minor website and a small newspaper to report on the goings on of the Italia team. We wish this new partnership the best of luck into the future.

Sponsor goals (in order of importance)
Top 3 - GVA Trofee-Oostmalle
Top 3 - Superprestige-Gavere
Top 5 - Overijse
Top 5 - Kalmthout
Top 10 - Superprestige Middelkerke
Top 10 - Erpe-Mere - Top 3 - Achieved
Top 10 - Eeklo
My own personal goals are simply to get Italia promoted to the World Tour and take a top 3 in a World Cup race. That will be incredibly difficult but I think if I use the correct tactics I'll be able to achieve it.

Well winning the World's with the StanosCrossBase is kind of impossible... 'cause you can't ride them
Good luck anyway though. I'm enjoying the DB myself, so will follow this

@Ian Butler Thanks Ian Let's hope it can last a long time.
@Wild Dog I thought you could with the national teams. I've yet to get that far. What happens when you get to the date of the worlds?
@sutty68 Good to know you're following. I sure hope it's fun |

@francopell When you are at the page where you should pick your line-up for the race there is no one to pick and you can't simulate. What you need to do is skip through the date in the calender bar.. The race is then simulated, but you don't have any influence on it. |

@Ian Butler Today or tomorrow, tomorrow is more likely with Friday being the latest.
I know, nice to know there are some followers anyway
@Wild Dog Maybe he'll win it through luck Or I can simply edit the game to have the winner of the individual rider's category at World Tour and give them the jersey. That will be decided later though. |

So today would be my first professional race with Italia. I was looking forward to today, there would only be five riders participating and I thought I had a good shot at victory.
I did an early attack to test out my own legs and those of the opposition. I thought that if I got away early I could make them panic and tire them out for my final push. The race remained tranquil for a while after that attack however, when they caught up with me:
However, after a while I got bored and through everything I had into an attack that I hoped would break everyone...
I had rode away and the end was in sight. Victory seemed assured if I could hold off the other riders.
I was a few meters away from my first victory in my very first race! This was it, my moment of glory...
I'd done! I was speechless after the race, I'd managed to win. Granted I was recognized as the strongest beforehand and all there were only four other riders, I'd won and that was all that mattered to me. None of us had team mates to help us either so it was all down to our own personal strengths.
Interviewer: Wow! That was a great win! How difficult was it?
VM: I think you can tell that I'm pretty exhausted after that. I knew I had a good chance at victory today and took it.
Interviewer: Will you be able to rejoin the top step of the podium soon with some big names preparing for the future races?
VM: I don't know right now, I'm handing over the reins to my team mates for the next race so I will be having a (quick) break.
Interviewer: Has your team applied to any World-Tour races? I'm sure a lot of people would want to see you battle against the very best.
VM: We have applied to the World-Cup round in Rome as we are an Italian team and we want to represent ourselves in our own country.
Interviewer: Thank you Vincenzo.
VM: No problem.

Kalmthout
It is true that I will be racing at Kalmthout. After a third place finish by the team at one of our goals, I will be given a free role on my own to do what I see fit today. I know that I can take a podium today. However, it would all come down to a breakaway if I was to be successful.
(As you can see, the world champion and all of his rivals will be here in Belgium)
I launched a counter attack against another rider, like me, who was trying to create a name for himself. I was followed by Jan Van Dael, a strong rider with a good sprint.
Alas, the Landbouwkrediet train were hunting us down and I HAD to take matters into my own hands. My fellow breakaway companions were doing nothing to hold on so I pushed hard on the front for 20 kilometres on my own. No help from them, they just dragged along. Then I burst away from them with around thirteen km to go...
Unfortunately my efforts on the front had finished me off. I couldn't hold off Van Dael and he re-joined me. If he'd have helped I would've won by a big margin, however, he had known I was desperate to create a name for myself and was willing to let me work on the front as I gave it my all. I knew he'd win as we'd distanced ourselves from the other rider and I was out of energy. I led him out to his sprint victory...
I took second so it's not a total loss. But I know I could've won. I can't blame him for taking a gamble by not helping, but I was the strongest today out of the breakaway. He was the cleverest.

@sutty68 Yeah, shame he couldn't win the second race. The break was being caught up quickly but he lengthened the gap to nine minutes again on his own(!) before his attack. They were on about four minutes before he came to the front more. |

Skoda report -
The month of September would prove to be a successful one for the team, scoring podiums in all of their races. The team currently lie third in the CG Rankings table and are the prime candidate for promotion to the World Tour next season:
3rd Italia Pro-Continental 160
7th Denmark Pro-Continental 52
Those are the current promotion spots with Italia holding a big lead.
There is even greater need for celebration however. We have a rider who is currently topping the CQ-Rankings table. Someone with a win and a second placed to their name, we have Vincenzo Moretti. First place will surely boost the twenty-year-old's confidence and although it will almost certainly not last, he is showing his potential. He is now known amongst Cyclo-cross fans in Europe and we hope his success continues.
1st Vincenzo Morreti 140
2nd Sven Nys 110
3rd Niels Wubben 92 |
