GrandTour winners may not have helped their team to a high placement, but they do all take a place in the Top 3 of the Individual Standings.
Angel Madrazo is rightly top after 1st in the Vuelta and 2nd in the Tour. Plus winning GP Liechtenstein in his only other race.
Riccardo Ricco is perhaps the weakest of the 3 GT winners, but he takes 2nd in the standings. He was beaten by Cunego in Colombia, and Madrazo in Liechtenstein. But for him, the Giro was where it mattered most, and he took the title.
The aforemented Damiano Cunego takes 3rd: Tour de France, Vuelta a Colombia and Giro di Lombardia. 4th in Liege-Bastogne-Liege his only 'failure'.
Up and coming puncheur Jan Bakelandts raced through the season to take 4th, beating the dominant in his terrain Tom Boonen.
Juri Trofimov, Taylor Phinney, Aleksandr Pluchkin, Frank Schleck and Emanuele Sella round out the Top 10.
I'm surprised just how many point Popovych took for me. Goes to show that whilst not being the best Grand Tour rider, two top 10 finishes and a couple of other results actually does pull a few points in.
Also goes to show just how awful my sprinters did this season. 400k odd for Luke Rowe, and he scores just a handful more points than his brother. And neither scored anywhere near what I had expected. I think it'll be investment, or cutting my losses. Hard choices to make this season!
Plenty of points scored by Chavanel. But hopefully, when negotiating for a new contract he will remember that he is just a helper and his stats are also heavily declining.
And Plaza wasn't just as good as last year. I guess that's also a reason for my failures this season.

Completely inconceivable to me. When I had him he accomplished little to nothing, and that was in the CT. I do understand a lot of his points came from his fluke-ish Fleche win (I think it was Fleche, either that or AGR, right?), but even still, it makes me thing it was more of a bad season from him, then a bad signing.
EDIT: Haha, just looked it up. He finished 46th for me, just as he did for you this year, obviously a different division though.

EDIT: Yeah I guess he had a bad season while riding for you as he also had some better stats I think. Then again I think we used a different PCM while he was riding for your team so that could also count for something

Going through this is not always cheap and valuable...Vantomme, cough cough... On the other side, Venchi bought Di Maggio for 500K I guess plus his wage of 50K (? I don´t have DB on my laptop) and he finished 2nd or 3rd IN CT
I think it depends, in my opinion the best way to "build" a team is by signing talents. Not the best strategy in the short term, but long term... I hope so atleast :-p Apart from being really lucky on free agents (Boonen this year, or Bennati imo), or doing some sick trades (Di Maggio...). Other than that the only way to get "cheap" domestiques and leaders are talents.

Indeed, it depends...just imagine that Santander gained -+150 points less last season, they wouldn´t be able to keep their super talents Madrazo and Tenorio in team and could still "struggle" in CT instead of shining in PT... That's not always the case though. There are plenty of talents that receive a high wage even if they are lvl 1 experience and are mediocre riders even for the CT.
So, it's a tricky business with talents as well since you could end up paying a very high wage for a rider that will even struggle to score any points at first.
It's easier for a CT team, but it's pretty much impossible for a PT to count too much on that strategy.
Happy with Ricco in second. He had an amazing season, and i even feel he under performed in the races after the Giro.
He was my points scorer in both stage races and hilly classics, which was an awful decision looking back at. Cobbles don't quite outweigh the amount of hilly opportunities in PT. (Still glad i got Burghardt nontheless, he'll start to shine when Boonen gradually declines).
I expected Madrazo to beat Cunego even with the Lombardy win.
Nevertheless, Cunego proved he's better at the Tour.
If Cafe de Colombia had been continuing, I think I would have sent Cunego to the Vuelta next year as Madrazo would have been too chicken to ride the Giro.

Yeah, well, last season I loaned Madrazo out for free hoping that the rest of my team would have enough to get promoted without him, and I was right (just).
It's paid off massively this year though, with Madrazo winning the PT. The one blot on his copybook is Cunego. So I will have to arrange a shoot out with Cunego next year to get my revenge.

Agreed! Really fun to watch him perform so well. His 2 consecutive stage wins in my FBD Eire Tour were amazing to report on, certainly a rarity amongst stage hunters.
