Cyclocross is one of my most entertainment sports ever. So I create a story about the Spanish cyclocross team and my objective is only one word for it: Victory.
First race of the season. One of our liders David Seco is one of the favourites and his objective is like mine. But watch out for Kona's Ryan Trebon and USA's Mark McCormack
The Favourites of the day
The race starts and couple of riders attacked early. Fortunately, they aren't a threat for us. So I said to them good luck.
Early attacks
And who made the BOTD? Five riders! Not a threat for us as i told you.
Breakaway of the day
The breakaway extended their lead to 1:35 and no work for the local boys neither our team. Then they increased to 2 minutes.
30 km to go, I have no choice to put Oscar Vazquez to attack. Bad news for USA. Vazquez is leaving the peloton and McCornack concentrates to Trebon and our leader Seco, instead of putting his team to work.
Vazquez is off
20 km to go he caught one of the riders who were in the BOTD.
One of the breakaway riders caught by Vazquez
And he catches the breakaway, just 10km to the finish. Meanwhile, on the back, Seco attacked, McCornack and Trebon follow the Spaniard.
Vazquez made it
Attack of David Seco
5 to go, Vazquez is still in front, but the Spanish champion is very close.
5KM to the finish
Seco caught Vazquez, but he got caught by Trebon and McCormack as the two Americans start the sprint
But Seco said NO to the defeat and lauches his sprint, and he still in front. Can he make it?
Yes, he did! Seco got the holeshot and takes Waterford behind the two local boys. Vazquez finished in 4th.
Same race, same favourites. The our 2nd visit in Waterford.
Always the same
The race started.
Suddenly, two riders tried to escape and they made it perfectly.
Breakaway of the day
Just like the 1st race in Waterford, the same Vazquez attacked and no response of the favourites.
Attack of Vazquez
Vazquez caught the breakaway, but it seems he almost lost his breath and the peloton was close to catch him. Fortunately, Vazquez increase his rhythm. Meanwhile, it looks like a move from Seco.
Vazquez caught the BOTD
Vazquez in the breakaway with Seco moving forward
And it is! Seco was off, McCormack and Trebon responded as Vazquez was still in front.
Attack of the three favourites
But Vazquez got caught quickly by Seco. Then McCormack and Trebon passed him.
Vazquez caught
Trebon was in front of Seco and McCormack was right behind the spanish rider as we were coming to the last KM sign.
Last KM
And they started sprinting, but Trebon was falling backwards as Seco and McCormack passed him. Seco was in front and the victory is very close for Spain. Trebon unsuspectively cracked.
Seco in front
It's a double for Seco and Spain! 2nd win of the season and that's
important. Vazquez made it to 4th again.
Another one for us
And I didn't export the results because it doesn't work. But I take a screenshot on the results, so here it is:
Is the US race, not the UK's. Same riders with a new fav: Thorsten Struch. It's another flat race.
The race started with no breakaway.
It continues without it until 25km to go, when Vazquez and Struch escaped, but Seco attacked as well! Is it too early? Let's find out!
Oscar Vazquez
Thorsten Struch responding
Seco's early attack
They made a trio and no sign of Trebon neither McCormack. This is incredible for Spain.
Bad news for USA
On the final KM, the trio start sprinting with the same Seco in front, Vazquez lost the 2nd place spot to Struch as the german looked to be stronger this point.
The final KM
Seco in front
But no! Seco wins it ahead of the german. 3rd of the season for the spanish champion and he looks in great shape.
Seco is very confident and needs a little help. Trebon wants to win this year like McCormack, who is tired to be 3rd. But Gloucester isn't the track they're looking for.
The race starts.
No breakaway at this point.
Resting their energie is much better
But the race had bored the fans. So, once again, Vazquez steals the show by launching an attack when it's more than 20km to go.
Vazquez as always
And then Seco is off and this time, no response of Trebon. Neither McCormack.
Seco says See Ya Later!
Oh NO! That's what happened. McCormack is down with his teammate Tim Wells. What a nightmare for USA!
McCormack crashed
Trebon goes alone and saw both spaniards in front. Funniest part is that Seco is drinking, coming across the line.
Trebon is close
Too late for Trebon
But too late! They have done it again! But this time is Vazquez ahead of this teammate Seco. Trebon almost caught them. Poor guy! And McCormack finished in 7th. Bad luck for USA!
For the first time in this season, we're not in USA. That's a shame. We're in UK and this race is great. But the same guys like Trebon and McCormack are here.
Well this race is going to be a good one. Seco is confident and his teammate Vazquez as well. As you see the Continental leader is tired of being alone, despite the last race with Vazquez.
The race is on and one of my team launched an early attack and he only got caught almost at the end of the race.
BOTD
Seco attacked with just 10km to the finish and Mark McCormack, on the back, tried to respond him.
Seco caught his teammate Piñero and ask him to increase his rhythm but he has no legs to do it. So the spanish champion is on his own.
But, on the back, there was no choice for them to catch Seco, as the spaniard raised his hands too early.
NOT! He acrossed the line in 1st again. And with a little help of the cameraman. Trebon beats Struch over the line in 2nd with the German in 3rd.
