I'm just wondering what I can expect from him ratings wise at the end of the 2007 season.
He starts at a 59 but I've heard he develops quickly. How long will it take for him to develop into a 70+ stage racer?
I ask because I need to know if I can count on him to lead in the 2008 Vuelta as one of my 3 GC's once my team advances to the pro tour next season, or if I need to search the transfer market for a solution for another year. We're talking about 20+ months, so I thought he might be at a decent enough level to compete for a top 10 at that point. |

I would presume that 2008 is far too soon to expect anything, particularly in a Grand Tour.

Well, we are talking about the end of the season in 2008 with the Vuelta... I'm just wondering where he'll be.
65? 68? 71?
I'm guessing his rate of increase will slow (I've heard he's gone up 3 points in the first couple of months with some... but I'd guess going from 59-62 would take a lot less time than 67-70).
Also of note is that I was blessed with a mythical trainer specializing in youth development... so that may give me a bit of an edge. |

In PCM06 I got a Potential 8 rider with a mythical trainer from 60 MO to 71 MO from January Season 1 to Langkawi Season 2.
I was expecting the rider to be a threat in ProTour races for Season 3. Ill never quite know though, since the file crashed.
Considering that Phinney's rate will be slower, I dont think Vuelta 08 is a realistic aim.

Vuelta 09 though you might start thinking about a stage win.

Phinney is a potential 8 in PCM Spain. Based on that it sounds like he could be in around 70 in early '08. Maybe 74 by the Vuelta?
Hmm. That's really borderline for me. I'm running my English speaking country only team that will move up to the pro tour after the '07 season. The top riders aren't going to sign with me before the '08 season (guys like Danielson, Evans and Rogers have no interest). I'm not looking to win any grand tours in '08, but I'd like to compete for some top 10 places. My best bet for a leader is Zabriskie who I'm going to target the TDF. I have a young rider (Augustyn) who I'm hoping I can have ready for the Giro after a full season of mountain training in '07. Phinney may still be my best option if he can be at 74 or 75 in his mountain stats by the '08 Vuelta... if not I have a few guys with lesser potential who have climbing rankings around 71-73 not that might be a little better. I don't know of anyone else to target... maybe try to sign Horner for a year. |

In pcm 06 I managed to get Boasson Hagen from 63 to 79 in 1 year(letting him ride the right races so that he was on full experience at the end of the year)

Show me a screenshot of Phinney finishing within the Top 20 of a GT with these kind of stats.
PS: If you do, I'd give Kaggestad a shot at next year's Tour.
