247 kilometres on the Swiss designed world course and with this years world’s hardly one for the punchaers look for those type of riders to dominate proceedings today.
The key climb of 3.5km averaging 8% is a bit lengthy for our pure punchy men like recently deposed world champion Tejay Van Garderen or Belgian darling Philippe Gilbert and just may swing in the favour of those mountain types like Giro champ Riccardo Ricco, GTour phobic Robert Gesink and I’m a Protour rider get me outta Spyker Thomas Dekker.
Of course the ever classy Frank Schleck and his young rival Jan Bakelants are good enough to straddle both mountains and hills theatre’s. Pearl Adidas’s young prodigy seems to be heir apparent to the now legendary Luxembourger, he will badly want his scalp before seasons end.
Talking of season’s end many riders will have an eye on the Giro di Lombardia, Italian’s such as Festina pair Filippo Pozzato and Diego Ulissi along with Wiggle star Simone Ponzi will be looking for a tune up.
The home team are UBS and their hopes rest on the unpredictable Stefan Schumacher, the team will likely be happy that this season has consolidated their protour position as they will no doubt look to push on next year.
I should mention Edvald Boasson Hagen but doing so seems to curse him to a dreadful race... whoops!

Top 10 is a must here, but it's very very tough, so it will be exciting to see what will happen.

A top ten for Lopez Garcia is probably to much to ask for, but I'm going to ask anyway.

Hopefully we can wheelsuck our way to finish and get 8 finishers. Any more than that and it's been an amazingly successful race. |

Not bad, but could have gone better. Especially, since all teams that i had to hold behind me, just finished in front of me .

Shcleck beaten, but not for lack of trying, so can't complain about 2nd. This is the start of the shift in world order as Bakelandts steps up to claim the #1 puncheur spot.

Horrible result. 5th will be difficult to maintain, if this is the level for the final races.

Top 50.
As expected though, Meiji were never really going to do that well.
Would have liked Lloyd to do more though...

Great report, and a nice win by Bakelants, congratulations to p3druh.
It was also nice to see Meiji active early on, but those one day classics are always going to be tough for Continental teams, as long as the wildcard team doesn't contain a world class rider. |

Really exciting race! 4th isn't bad for Schumacher, although it would have been nice if he could have got on the podium. Would have expected Albasini to do alright also, but I guess not today. Maybe in Lombardia
Oops, I'm looking back and it says I have that as a win goal. Well that's a bummer. Schumacher you're fired.

Wow, Bakelandts finally wins but it came in the most unexpected race.
@ember, thanks
