Tour de l'Avenir 2012 - Stage 4
SportingNonsense
One hilly stage down, and now back to the flat. The hilly influence remains though, with a more bumpy route. Nevertheless, its a stage where i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wiggle.png Luke Rowe is more likely to win than lose - unless the breakaway attempts can foil the peloton, or the other sprinters can gang up on him.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-1.jpg

Early attackers were: Cheung, Fonzi, Gee, Andersen, Pereyra, Thill, Krneta, Arabuli, Livery, Kuphaldt, Redatsch, Roth, Vlatos, Quaade, Afonso and Schiewer.

That didnt work, but instead a break of 6 did.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cerne.png Afonso
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/saab.png Lavery
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Battaglin
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/GER.png Roth

But its bad news for i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/eb.png Krneta who finds himself stuck in no-mans land.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-3.jpg

The first KoM goes to Lavery, from McLay and Afonso.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-4.jpg

Afonso takes the 2nd, from Lavery and Battaglin

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-5.jpg

But Lavery bounces back to take the 3rd - ahead of McLay and Roth - and that gives the Irishman the KoM jersey

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-6.jpg

The only intermediate sprint on course goes to McLay, rolling through in front of Battaglin and Lavery

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-7.jpg

Milka and Rapha team up to chase down the breakaway, while there are crashes for i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Schachmann, Vesely and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Quaade.

The break are caught, but replaced by 2 late attackers who are clear with 5km to go. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/spyker.png Kamyshev and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/festina.png Landa.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-8.jpg

But Milka are already gathering, and Hosek brings back both Kamyshev and Landa, in time for Reinhardt to launch the sprint with 2.5km to go.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/milka.png Reinhardt
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/milka.png Howard
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Blythe
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wiggle.png Rowe
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Bennett
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/festina.png Matthews
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/GER.png Zabel

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Sagan
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Yamamoto

And finally Milka have got the leadout right, Howard is able to wait until the final kilometre before launching

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-10.jpg

But does he have the legs? Fellow Aussie Matthews is looking stronger, with Zabel tracking him. Rowe has work to do!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-11.jpg

But Rowe spots a gap inbetween Blythe and Bennett, and squeezes through it. Just 300 metres to go though.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-12.jpg

Rowe unleashes his full sprint though, and Australian hopes fade. Win number 3 for Luke Rowe and Wiggle!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir4-13.jpg

Blythe manages to claim another 2nd place, while Matthews just holds off Howard and Zabel for 3rd - despite what it looks like on the picture below!
