I thought it was just overall time of only the riders under 25 or something, but during the Tour of China, one of my riders was 2nd in Overall time +12" (2), and he was also 2nd in "Best Young Rider" ranking, but he was + -7" (2), to the same leader who had the same time for both.
How can he be + -7"? How is Best Young Rider calculated?
The green jerswey is a "points" jersey. Points are awarded for the first riders past a certain point on the track. You can see the points in the profile under "sprints".
Normally a sprinter will win the points jersey if it's a flat race as most stages will end in a bunch spirnt and most points are awrded for the first riders over the line.....
In hilly races or grand tours it can be more open

But why would I be + -7" ? Shouldn't I have been -1"? Or rather, shouldn't my guy have been first and the other guy +1"?
How does it make sense to be + -7" at all? And why would the overall time ( +12" ) be different to the Best Young Rider ( +-7" ) when it was the same two riders?
Does it actually make sense in cycling terms, or was it just a weird glitch or something?
I think I understand about the green jersey now. I was getting confused thinking it wasn't the sprinters jersey because my riders were not winning any of the rankings, and yet they were wearing a green jersey. I guess if the overall time leader or mountain leader is also the overall points leader, the person coming 2nd in the points wears the green jersey?

Like I said, it could be that the overall ranking includes bonus seconds and the young rider ranking does not include them. You would need to check the stage results to see if this is the reason or if there is an error. But that jersey does neither give prize money nor points, so it does not matter that much.
The jersey stuff is common race cycling logic. Nobody can wear more than one jersey, so if the overall leader also is leader in other rankings, the next rider would wear the jersey instead. Look at the ranking to see who really is the leader.
Thanks Lachi, I don't know much about cycling, I always just assumed only the leader of whichever category was allowed to wear the jersey and if they already had another jersey then no one would wear it. Took me awhile to figure out that the "National Champion" of a country also wears a special jersey.
I think the + -7" thing was just an error, because now later in the same Tour, my rider is +1'14" in overall and in Best Young Rider, and neither my rider or the leader has won any intermediate sprints.
