Our leaders

Thomas De Gendt

Spoiler
i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/degendt.png

Thomas will be our spearhead who will try to achieve the almost impossible Giro-Tour double top 3. It will be awfully hard, but Thomas is a true fighter who will give all that he's got. It won't get many other chances in the spring, as he has to save himself for the Giro and Tour.

Wout Poels

Spoiler
i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/poels.png

Wout is the best puncheur in the team and will go for the Ardennes sponsor goals. If he has a good day, he stands a very good chance of making it happen. He will also be an important domestique for Thomas at the Tour, and he will also go for the sponsor-requested stage win in the Vuelta.

Lieuwe Westra

Spoiler
i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/westra.png

Lieuwe will race a mixed programme this season; leader and going for the stage win goal in the Paris-Nice, helper in the Ardennes, and a protected rider in the Giro, especially important in the TTT.

Björn Leukemans

Spoiler
i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/leukemans.png

Björn will be our leader on the cobblestones and will have to be in top shape from the start of the season, as the five star goal of winning the Omloop Het Nieuwsblaad comes early. He will also be going for top 10s in the Flandrian classics.

Romain Feillu

Spoiler
i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/feillu.png

With barely no sprinter-orientated sponsor goals, Romain won't have much pressure on him this year. The Frenchman is no top sprinter, but he will race the Tour and the Vuelta and try to make an impact.

The rest of the team

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/restofteam.pngHow the season will look for the rest of the team hasn't been decided yet, apart from that Carrara, Ruijgh and Larsson will be helpers at the Giro, and Hoogerland, Lagutin and Valls in the tour. Marczynski will have a free role at his home tour and Marcato and Devolder will be a helper in the cobbled classics.

Stijn Devolder released by Vacansoleil

Stijn Devolder has been released from his contract with Vacansoleil-DCM with immidiate effect, according to a press release from the team this morning. No official explanation was given, but according to our sources, Devolder was caught smoking marijuana in his hotel room during the team's training camp in Alcamo, Italy.

Vacansoleil have also been given a permit until January 31 by the UCI to sign one rider as a replacement for Devolder. It is still unclear who this rider will be.

Stijn Devolder's career has crashed.

Vacansoleil sign Saramontins

Vacansoleil announced their signing of the Latvian cobblestone specialist Aleksejs Saramontins today. The were allowed by the UCI to sign one rider after terminating Stijn Devolder's contract, supposedly for smoking marijuana at a training camp. Vacansoleil manager SweatyViking was very happy with his new signing, saying: "Aleksejs is a very strong all-rounder. He will be very useful as a helper in the WorldTour races and on the cobblestones".

Race Plan

Leukemans is our leader here, as he starts his build-up to the Omloop Het Nieuwsblaad. Boeckmans will try to do his best in the sprints, and will be lead out by Markus, Leukemans and Mortensen. Denifl will assist Leukemans on the hilly stages. Marczynski will try to get the mountain jersey, while his countryman Morajko will be nothing more than a water-carrier.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu11.png
The riders at the start in Prospect

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu12.png
Our Polish champion attacked almost from the gun

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu13.png

But it was the other Pole in our team, Morajko who was given the peloton's mercy, along with Vermote (OPQ) and Reynes (LTB)

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu14.png
Only for a short while though, as four others caught up with them, causing the pack to panic. Urtasun and Burghardt attacked out of the group, while Morajko followed and eventually caught up with them, not without effort, though.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu15.png
Our pole and Burghardt fought it out at the lone climb of the day, and while Morajko was surprisingly strong, he just came to late to edge out the German.

Our brave Pole would be dropped later on, but a few kilometres later everyone were caught.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu16.png

We got our lead-out train with Leukemans, Markus and at the end, Boeckmans to the front with 3.5 km to go.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu17.png

After a great lead-out by Markus, Boeckmans jumps just a little too late to overtake Ponzi, but gets 2nd, which is a good start.

Stage 2

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdus2pr.png

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu21.png
Morajko gets to wear the mountain jersey for a day as Burghardt wears the sprint jersey.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu22.png
Marczynski, Castroviejo and Christensen get the nod from the pack.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu23.png
The Polish champion takes the points on the lone climb of the day, ahead of Castroviejo and Christensen.

A little later, Christensen crashes and drops back, while Marczynsk and Castroviejo continue on.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu24.png
With 35 km to go, Puccio, Rast, Quinziato, Geslin and Millar catch up with the two leaders.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu25.png
As they get caught with 15 km to go, Txurruka attacks, and Denifl follows, but they get caught soon thereafter.

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu26.png
Then, Bole, Gallopin, Sørensen and Meyer get away. Leukemans catches up as the sprint starts with 1.5 km to go, but the peloton isn't far behind...

i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p639/SweatyViking/tdu27.png
However, the effort left him completely dead in the sprint. Meyer takes a nice win, Leukemans takes 5th.
