Holy fuck. Didn't see that one coming, I thought we were in for a few more years of legal battles.

Short summary of article:

USADA has opened a doping trail against Armstrong a couple of years ago, but Lance says he is tired of USADAs, in his own words, unconstitutional wicthhunt, and refuses to address the charges, thus making him guilty in the eyes of USADA. USADA then wants him banned for life and stripped of all Tour De France titles. Armstrong says that USADA has no right to do that.

That's what Armstrong claimed but his legal team is so far removed from reality. To the best of my knowledge, the USADA have that power as do each of the national federations.

Also wow, there are 6 people who said that they think he didn't dope. That is more than I thought were still out there.

I dont get these lunatics. Rolling Eyes Seven now...
Why the hell you are such a pussy Armstrong and you refuse to go to the court? Better to keep saying i am innocent victim of the witchhunt? Moron...
I think he should also pay the prize money he got for his wins at least.

Armstrong doped and so did the rest between 1999 and 2006. All results in this period, and a couple of years before should be deleted and forgotten. Let's draw a line over all of it and look forward instead, Armstrong, Ullrich and Riis etc. shouldn't be remembered as champions. They should rather be remembered as the best cheaters in a period full of cheaters, according to my opinion.

According to mine too...but it is hard to tell if it is better after 2006, doping could only gone more sophisticated (cough,Sky,cough).
Edit: as we also have Sastre,Contador and many more suspicious/proven dopers cyclists as winners

I find it quite ridiculous that they strip him from all his wins.. It's silly when you look at the riders who get their Tour wins in the mail 10 years later. Who believes they were clean?

It'd be better off if nobody got those Tour wins, seeing as nobody really deserves them... I think that's the way to go with disqualifying old dopers really.

Edit: And as it took me so long to write the short post, getting all the facts right, other people said the same before me.

Just as a small point about the ability of the USADA to strip him of his titles:

There's doping all around the world in sports that is about 99% physique. In sports that isn't dominated by tactics or technique there will always be doping, as it is the way to dominate.

I don't think doping is very common in badminton, soccer and such sports, where you need to have your head focused and your technical skills on for the entire game. It's there, sure - But it doesn't make you a winner. In cycling it does, and as such it is impossible to stop. People will do anything to win. Fix a match, dope your brains out. It's all the same, and no matter how badly you want it to end, the money involved is too big to keep people from gambling with their own health or other peoples misfortunes.

We just have to accept that cycling, amongst other, is a sport where you need the strongest legs, the fastes fibres and the biggest endurance/recuperation skills, and that doesn't come from eating a healthy dinner and working out, when there a drugs that enhance exactly those capabilities out there. It's just naive. What to do about it? Nothing! What to think about it? Bah, can't be bothered, i'm not that dumb I should be wasting my energy in getting offended.

Next topic...

OK so now what? Ullrich had been accused for doping like Basso... We'll see Leipheimer and other 5ths and 6th places winning a tour?

Armstrong believes that USADA can not impose a ban on him, nor strip him of his previous titles
USADA believes it can ban him and strip him of his previous titles

While he may not fight this for the time being it will probably end up with CAS in 3-4years.
It may also lead to a clarification on who has the power to issue bans, whether its nations own organizations or whether it has to be UCI
There is much more to this than Armstrong

All i pray is that it doesn't damage the rest of the sport, but alas i fear that it is too late to avoid such damage.

Was he doping? I'm not sure. I cant make my mind up.
While several team mates say there was doping at USPostal and that Armstrong doped. No-one has denied doping this severely (and that includes Landis). You just dont put this much effort into proving yourself innocent if you've doped.
I hope he has not been doped, partly because he's still one of my heroes, and partly to keep the sport relatively intact.

This has been rumbling since his 1st comeback in 1999, thats 13years with no decision or solid proof... We thought the Contador situation was drawn out, this is on another level.
To me it means two things, either he is not doped and wasn't doped, or the UCI has been running a massive cover up which will be uncovered. I dont want to think what would happen to the sport if that happened

Whatever else, I just think it's stupid that they say: you give up fighting, therefore you confess guilt. That's just not logical.

He's not really being a pussy - he's being clever. He doesn't want most of America to actually know the details of the case. He wants to be able sit there and say it's a witchhunt and that USADA are chasing after him because of a personal vendetta/they hate America/they love cancer. If he goes to court and loses, then the whole of the USA will hear about how their cancer-beating hero was a cheat like everyone else. And Armstrong will no longer be powerful or important.

And this is an actual cycling website, where people are meant to know about the sport. Imagine what it's like on american news websites.
