Welcome to CCC Polsat Polkowice, where we don’t have good riders, money or staff, and where 2 riders have to ride on 1 bike as we have only 4 of them.
Well, it isn’t that bad really, but it’s tough enough, and that’s what makes it my favourite team in PCM since 2009… plus, they are from my country, so I fell kind of obligated to choose them.
Patch: 1.3.0.0
Database: PCM.daily's
Gameplay level: Hard
Career level: Hard
Evolution of attributes: 0.3
Squad
There’s no world class riders in this team, but the leader will definitely be Marek Rutkiewicz (HIL 74, MO 72).
Best sprinter – Bartlomiej Matysiak (SP 73, ACC 74).
Other distinguished riders are Nikolay Mihaylov (TT 68)
and Tomasz Kiendys (HIL 71, TT 67).
And that’s about it. Others are 60 – 67 AVG. Here’s the full list.

Plan
My main plan is to survive first 4 years, as that's how long my contract with the main sponsor goes*. In those 4 years, and budget of €32.049 a month I won't be able to win much. My long-term plan is to successively replace original riders (when their contracts expire) with young talented cyclists or free agents who don't mind to pedal for €2.000. Mainly generated sprinters and lead outs with good TT, as they are the cheapest.
*Btw CCC is one company and Polsat is other. Polkowice is a name of small town in south-west Poland. However in PCM for some reason CCC Polkowice is one (main) sponsor and Polkowice is the other (secondary). Too bad, because if that was done properly I could keep the Polkowice name when changing sponsors. |

Beginnings
The first thing I did was firing all the staff, as I simply can't affort them. Started with €32.049 on my account and with staff wages I would be -€32.354 each month which would make my team bankrupt in 2 months time. Without them I'm still -€3.451 each month on riders wages. And when it comes to squad I've been using one fitness tactic for a long time and find it working very well for me. I split my team into 2 groups. I place my best sprinter in 1st group (most of my objectives are in the first half of the season), 2nd best sprinter into 2nd group, 3rd into 1st, 4th into 2nd and so on. Same with climbers, punchers, time-trialists and lead outs. I keep my 1st group fit for the first half of the season (January - June (including National Championships)) and 2nd for the second half (June to October).
Despite low budget I decided to sign another sprinter, as without him I could barely win any race and earn money that would let my team survive. After long search the choice fell on Mikhaylo Khalilov, a 36-year old Ukrainian, which I got for €3.000 on 2-year deal (might be too long for a 36 yo, but didn't agree for 1 year contract).
So that's what my training programs looks like.
And that's how i split my team.

First races
I've progressed my career untill May before finally decided to share my story, so it's gonna be updated from now on. Here's just some brief summary of season so far.
I was rejected on most of my sponsor's objectives races - qualifying only for Circut de Wallonie - a 1 star race importance - which I was lucky to win. But on the other end Khalilov transfer paid off, as he managed to win few races and played enormous part in my €138,700 winnings so far. I also managed to grab some wins with Rutkiewicz and few mountain jerseys. At the moment sponsors are quite happy with the results as I'm 7th in team ranking (and that's good place for them, as I don't really wanna be promoted before my contract expire).
and Khalilov is 3rd in individual ranking.
I also managed to improve my budget, having €144,749 on my account at the moment. But can't really spend it, as I will need it for the infertile months from October to January.

Just finished Royal Smilde Olympia's Tour. Mikhaylo Khalilov didn't disappoint again grabbing both - yellow and green jersey.
However Marcin Rutkiewicz got injured on the last stage and that ends his racing for this season as he's in group 1.

As it's already 1st of July and U23 are done untill September I decided to get some young riders before they will be snatched by other teams. At the end of this season 3 of my riders will be without the contract and as I said before I'm not gonna extend it.
They are all on €2.000, so that gives me €6.000 spending money. I've decided to get 3 top young riders for that. 2 sprinters and 1 stage racer. However I wasn't very lucky with them, as they arn't as good as I would expect, so probably I will have to get some free agents in July (1 or 2 - depends really on my financial condition).
Anyway, the youths and CCC Polsat Polkowice hope for the future are:
21-year old Luxembourge stage racer Daniel Aliu.
22-year old Portuguese sprinter Antero Manhoso.
and from South Africa, 21-year old sprinter Siyabonga Nomvete.
I will know their potential in August when they finally join my team, but that doesn't really matter, as I probably won't be able to affort a trainer for them.
Now getting ready for National Championships. Bit worried about my riders form as I don't have any races planned untill then.
Btw thanks for all the support and following.

It looks like I was right being worried about my riders form for Polish Championship. Most of my riders, including my best time trialist Tomasz Kiendys (FL 68, TT 67) were 75 +/- 1.
He didn't do very well and ended up 13th. Michal Kwiatkowski from Omega Pharma - Quick Step was uncongested with 52-second lead.
However, I did much better in the road race. There was an early breakaway with 2 of my riders in it (5 in total). I had to control the pace and protect with one of them, so the final sprint was between 4 riders but my protection paid off and I managed to snatch a win with Tomasz Kiendys.
And then, when peloton came in I also managed to win the massive sprint with my best Polish sprinter Bartlomiej Matysiak.
Here are results, that made my sponsors quite happy.
I was thinking about getting some young Polish rider, as at the end of the day I have to keep it Polish, but this season the best of them was 48 in U23 ranking, so I probably rather stick to some free agents... maybe Kwiatkowski. But as soon, as any talented Polish rider show up I won't hesitate to sign him.
Now I'm getting ready for Czech Cycling Tour and my 2nd group to perform. Luckily enough I got allowed to Tour of Britain which is one of my sponsor's objectives.

Just signed another rider, as I will need 2 good sprinters for next season (hope that 37-year old Khalilov still be able to win anything). A 33 years old Ruben Bongiorno, who will earn €4.250 a month.
Wish I could affort a lead out for him, but probably will have to use young sprinters as them.

Good story so far, but why are you signing riders from foreign countries? If I were you I'd keep the team Polish, and let's say maximum 5 foreign riders, but they must be from Eastern European countries?
Just saying this so the squad stays a bit more realistic
Furthermore, keep it up!

1st of August - my young riders came in. I was bit disappointed with their skills and it's the same when it comes to their potential. They definitely aren't future stars.
Next season I will go for free agents instead.
The reason why I sign foreign riders is quite simple - they are better and cheaper and I know that my sponsor will be still quite happy with 66% Polish squad next season. However I'm seriously thinking about getting Michal Kwiatkowski for €2.250 as he didn't sign in for next season yet. Would be great for National Championship TT and TT in general, also it would be my lead out No. 1 I guess.
Just might get me into to much debt, as I would be - €12,951 each month then.

Aliu (Or Ailu?) doesn't lok like he will become a future GT winner, but he will be a pretty handy domestiwue in the moutnains, with an alright TT.

Well, on Tour des Pyrenees I realized I don't have a chance to get any decent position in overall ranking, so I decided to aim for a mountain jersey with him. Unexpectedly breakaway succeed to the very end and I managed to grab his first career win, becoming 6th in overall ranking, 2nd in youth and obviously snatching the red dots jersey.
In Trofeo Internazionale Bastianelli I came 4th with Matysiak and 6th with Kiendys. Now riding Tour of Utah. Kiendys was 12th and Aliu came 17th in Utah Olympic Park prologue.
I finally decided to get Kwiatkowski, realizing that he will easily win NC TT each year, which is worth €10.000, so he will earn his wages... well at least for 5 months. Just in talks with him, as it seems he's not interested signing anything longer than 1-year deal. |
