Hi there, I'm new top Pcm and after training myself with small tour, classics and stage, i wan't to start the big thing : a new Career with Bmc Racing team so i need your help for planning the season.
My major problem is to make the groups like you advice in other post talking about planning.
So can someone helps me picking those groups and their main objectives ?
Thanks

One thing you could do is to look at their real planning, who did they send to what race? and just copy (big part of) it. |

A lot of people split there squad into individual teams
i.e: Leader
Sprinter
Climber
Time Trialler etc etc |

There was a pretty good discussion on this a couple days back if you want to have a look at it : https://pcmdaily.c...rowstart=0
In general i would say you need to set yourself goals (and look at what the sponsor wants) and then plan accordingly. Just don´t expect to be in the running for every single race and make sure that not all your best riders ride the same races, spread them out so that you can compete often.
Also you have to have a decent built-up and built-down toward/from your goals.
Take Cadel Evans for you : He´s going to need some race days directly before the tour, so make sure he has decent fitness (not top level, just decent !) at some point in March/April so he gets a few races in, then give him a break (and lower his fitness) and in early June he should be at the 4th or maybe 5th fitness level (out of 6) and have him ride the Dauphinee or the Tour de Suisse.
You can get a good result here allready, just don´t be disapointed if you don´t finish as well as you´d think, because maybe some of your competitors are allready in peak form because that´s their main goal (while your goal for Evans is obviously the Tour de France !)
Then after the Tour he should still have a decent/good form to get some more results in August.
One major tip : Do not lightly assign the highest level of training, that will tire out your riders immensely. Especially for the helpers i would never use it and only for the top leaders with defninite goals i would maybe use it for a week or 2 when they have their main events (Cadel Evans and the tour in your case)
Also, as far as Career/roster planning : If i recall correctly, BMC doesn´t have a lot of quality as far as sprinters go, that´s one area you should look to improve in season 2. Its also a rather old team (again, if i recall correctly), so it might be wise to get in a couple younger riders in due time. |

Thanks for the answers !
I had already look at this thread before posting
I think, after all this reading, i though igot the fitness mechanical (Training and Racing) but your explanation make me understand it better and the major tip is nice, thanks for it !
Sutty's tips helps me to organize my riders too.
You remember correctly, their best sprinter is Thor Hushovd and their second is promising young gun Adam Blythe.
Same for mountain, First is Evans and second young Van Garderen.
Still i need to find who will be my leaders.
For example, if i use Evans for the Tour and Gilbert for Flandres/Ardennes Classics and maybe Ballan or Hushold for early Tour/classic/cobble.
Who should i send as a leader for Giro and Vuelta ? |

Tschopp/Frank could do alright for a top 20 at either one but other than that you might want to consider Van Garderen for the Vuelta (by which time he might have improved his mountain stat one or two points... also most of the AI riders are a bit overraced by this point so the third week would suit a fresh decent rider). that said the usual lack of TT kilometres there won't suit him.
Other than that sending stage hunting teams are your best bet I think. Most of the riders at BMC are at least good enough for that. Like Van Avermaet for instance - he can go looking for hilly stages in smaller races, or even win some smaller classics where he won't be protecting Gilbert.

Van Garderen contending for the Vuelta sound good to me.
Isn't Pinotti a bit better than Tschopp/Franck for the Giro ?
Do you think i can try to do something with Hushovd or his mountain skill is just too bad ? |

Oh of course I forgot about Pinotti. Perfect leader for the Giro.
Hushovd can't ride for GC. You need 76+ Mountain realistically and decent TT skills. Keep Hushovd for your cobbled team (share leadership with Ballan) and then maybe have him lead at something like Poland where not many riders will be 'peaking' and the field will be a bit weaker in the sprints. He can perform decent enough on the hills to stand a decent chance of a good placing there.
