Hello, and once again welcome to CrueTrue's live reports. Today, we are in Roubaix to follow the greatest classic of them all, Paris - Roubaix. Yesterday, we saw Tom Boonen win, and he will definitely be looking to defend his victory from last year. Time will tell if he manages to do so.

Unlike yesterday in Gent - Wevelgem, today's race seems to be a bit slower, and with no teams who are really interested in leading the peloton at this early stage. This has also meant that 4 riders have been allowed to go. E1 consists of:
Bonsergent (AG2R)
Clesen (Acccumalux)
Cardenas (Carrefour)
Velo (Fed-Ex)
None of them will have any chance as soon as we hit the cobbles, though.

With 200 km to go, the gap is now almost 6 minutes. There's not much else to report. The peloton is led by several teams, and no one are struggling to keep up. |

On the first two cobble sections it has been Cycling24 and Ferrari who have upped the pace. The gap has decreased a little.
... and now, while writing this, Cancellara has punctured! He will probably be able to make it back easily, though.

Magenta's captain, De Vocht, has fallen! It will be interesting to see if it will have any impact on his performance today. He doesn't look too good -- seems like a broken collarbone.
(And Cancellara has made it back to the peloton. However, he's currently at the very back of a very stretched out peloton)

The break has now been caught. Carrefour is setting a really hard pace, and Nuyens from the Domina-team has just punctured. If he gets too far behind it may be difficult for him to get back up. |

With 100 km to go Carrefour has still not managed to eliminate that many riders. There are 93 riders left in the peloton, and I suppose that Carrefour has used up a lot of energy on their continious attempts on splitting the front group. |

Puncture by the 2006 Paris-Roubaix winner, Stuart O'Grady. His team mates are quickly stopping to "pick him" up.
Nuyens has managed to make it back, so O'Grady should be able to do it too.

With 50 km to go, there's still 90 riders left in the front group.. And I have to admit that it's been a pretty uneventful race so far.
And yes, O'Grady did make it back to the peloton. |

Finally the first serious attack! It seems like Carlsberg have listened to their team manager. At Gent - Wevelgem, it was O'Grady who attacked. Today, it's Eisel. No one tries to follow him, though, so it will be difficult.

Unfortunately for Eisel, Ferrari puts and end to his try.
Instead .. I can see a counter-attack coming. It's ... Boonen!

And he's followed by Ballan (Ferrari), Hincapie (AG2R), Cancellara (Accumalux) and Burghardt (Fed-Ex). Boonen manages to open a small gap to them, though.

With 20 km to go, the race situation is like this.

With 10 km to go, Boonen is now BEHIND the group which were chasing him before. He's caught between the front group and the peloton. |

The front group has now entered the velodrome. Boonen is doing everything he can to get back, and he's closing in on them. In a sprint, Boonen would definitely have won .. but let's see what happens. He's down with 44 seconds.

And the sprint is off! Boonen is still behind, and it looks like he's not going to play a role in the fight for the win. Instead, it's between Burghardt, Cancellara, Hincapie and Ballan. They are all almost equally good at sprinting, so this will be a very close one!

1 km to go! Burghardt has given up, but it's still very open between the last three.

And it should also be noted that Boonen isn't even sprinting. He has given up, he's frustrated. This seemed like a clear victory for him again, but no .. today, the luck just wasn't with him.
