Hello, and welcome to the 2008-edition of Gent - Wevelgem. Today, we are probably going to see who will be the top contenders for the Paris - Roubaix. With that being said, there are several differences between the two races. For example, you won't find just as many cobble sections here as you do in Roubaix. Therefore, it's also likely that more riders will have the possibility to make it to the finish line -- as the first Especially sprinters have a greater chance here than in Roubaix.
(I should note that the screenshots won't be the best. I haven't adjusted the graphic settings since I reinstalled the game. Therefore, the riders may look weird
Also, I might not have all jerseys. I've tried to collect all packs of jerseys, but may have missed one or two)

Already at this point, it's clear that several teams have ambitions for this race. Ferrari, Carrefour and Domina Vacanze are all at the front of the peloton, making sure that no one are able to get away. |

After series of unsuccesful attacks, it seems like we have found today's first real breakaway. In it, we have Kristoff (Discovery), Schinker (Accumalux), Loubet (AG2R), Prestia (Gazetta dello Sport), Klimov (Domina) and Krasnoperov (France TV).

The group has now been joined by more escapees from the peloton. Newcomers in the breakaway are Bazajev (Virgin), Roche (Agricole), Laidler (AG2R), Lorenzetto (Fed-Ex) and Bertogliati (Accumalux).
That means that both AG2R and Accumalux have two riders in the breakaway which now totals 11 riders.
With 128 km to go they have a gap of 2'20 to the peloton which is led Carlsberg and Carrefour. |

With 100 km to go, the gap is now 3'56. More riders are moving to the front of the peloton.

Everything is pretty undramatic until now. The peloton has just reached the first small hill, Monteberg, and is being lead by the Ferrari team. It's going to be interesting to see if anything happens here.

No drama on the first of the hills - well, except that Rubens Bertogliati, who was in the breakaway group, punctured and therefore had to let go. Carrefour and Ferrari are still working very hard in the front to split the peloton apart.

2nd hill now. The gap is just about 2+ minutes to the front group, and it's still Carrefour and Ferrari leading the peloton. Cycling24 is, however, also starting to get visible in front of the peloton.
Let's see if anything will change on this climb.

In front, Lorenzetto and Laidler seems to have got tired of their fellow riders and have therefore decided to attack. They won't get away, though, and the peloton is coming from behind with great speed!

With 30 km to go it's difficult to conclude anything. The break has been caught, and the peloton is stretched out. However, as it is now, the greatest contenders for the win are Boonen, Hincapie, O'Grady, Corioni and Hunter. Petacchi is making his way back up now, though. |

Okay, there's now several groups. In E1 we have 26 riders. Of the main contenders I'd say: Weylandts, Eisel, Bäckstedt, O'Grady, Boonen and Fischer. 1'20 behind them, we have a non-chasing group of 12 riders, and well, basically, it doesn't matter. No one behind E1 are chasing, so it seems pretty clear that E1 will stay away.
In front, Devolder has realized he needs to do something if he wants to win --- he attacks! De Vocht tries to follow him.

No, they are not allowed to go. O'Grady and Nuyens tried to counter attack, but the Ferrari team was quick to respond. |

Several riders have to let go. Weylandt, who is a good sprinter, and Fischer are some of the "favourites" who have had to let go. Bäckstedt is trying to hang on, but it seems difficult for him.

With 3 km to go there's 18 people left in the group, and the sprint is being set up. Currently, Eisel seems very well-placed, being led by the Carrefour-man De Jongh, who has obviously forgot his captain.

The sprint is off! Boonen managed to get a wheel, and it's now going to be a challenge between De Jongh, Eisel, Hincapie and Boonen.

Eisel is leading! De Jongh has given up. Behind Eisel, Hincapie is "fighting" with Boonen.
