Protecting a Rider

I can't work out how to protect a rider in PCM12.
The protect option always appears to be greyed out. Can anyone please help?

Mark the rider you want as protector, then right click on the rider you want to protect and click the protection symbol.

Thanks very much - so straight-forward, can't believe I couldn't work it out.
