Database & expansion pack

I am a newbie here so perhaps stupid question: When the expansion pack is finished, is the database automatically in. And what is the expansion pack exactly doing? Is it easy to install?

You have to install it manually. It is somewhat easy to install as there are exact instructions but people are still able to mess it up. After installation, you have to select it in the options of the game.

What it is doing:
The expansion pack is a name for a "database".
There are two types of "database" releases. "Pure data" and "data with additional content".
The data defines the cycling teams, the races and so on.
The additional content could be team logos, cyclist photos, ....
The expansion pack contains data and additional content.

Generally, read the announcements and threads about the databases to see which features a "database" has.
