I just bought the game through steam and in previous versions I have known that updates were done correctly as I checked through the .exe file. As I have installed it through steam that is not possible. How can I check that I have the latest update?

Steam auto-updates the game, so it's alwyas having latest patch within one day of it's release. So you have the latest Patch 1.2.0.0.
