i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-kirsch.png

Alex Kirsch is keen on becoming a stage racer and is drawn towards the complexity of the discipline. He wants to become a good all-round man: strong in time trialling, tough in the mountains and solid in the head. It’s a challenge he’s set for himself since attending the Tour de France prologue in 2002, an event his cycling-mad father took him to which changed his life completely. Versatile in his capacities, Alex will be a valuable card to play throughout the season.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-pliuschin.png

Born in Moldavia to a poor family and in a country that didn't hold cycling in its heart at the time, Alexandr Pliuschin is a rider with a story that has taught him to appreciate the small things in life and overcome the roadblocks that blocked his path. His father was a cyclist, but the dream of seeing his son follow in his footsteps was at first denied when the young child was diagnosed with a muscular malfunction, preventing him from walking until he was over 4 years of age. Despite the doctors' advice to the contrary, Alexandr's father bought him a bike for his birthday, hoping this would help him get better. With his mother's constant encouragement, the boy grew healthier and healthier, until he had caught up with his friends in physical capacity. Pliuschin’s love for the bike grew bigger. Soon he won his first national race and dedicated the win to his mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer and who would die shortly after. All these events, topped with some broken bones and injuries, contributed to the Moldavian leader of Leopard - Trek being extremely motivated to make the best out of the talent he received.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-jungels-1.png

Drawn into the world of sports via tennis, Bob Jungels started cycling at a very young age. Not pressed by his parents to decide which path to choose, he practiced both sports until he was about seven. Until his first results were achieved at age 15, the young man thought of cycling as a fun way to meet with his friends and to blow off youthful energy. Having booked his first wins in the racing circuit in Luxembourg and Belgium, Jungels started dreaming of becoming a professional bike rider at age 17. The silver medal at the 2009 Juniors European Time Trial Championships proved his capacity against the clock. After winning the 2010 Juniors World Championships in that discipline, several teams solicited his services. Jungels, however, decided it was wise to finish high school first. He joins Leopard - Trek as a captain and will focus on the time trial, especially at the World Championships in Valkenburg. He will also target such races as the Flèche du Sud and other hard stage races.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-alafaci.png

It was an attentive neighbour that introduced Eugenio Alafaci to cycling. Coming from a family without emotional bonds to sports, Alafaci was nonetheless a standout for his striking activeness and fitness as a young boy. At age 7, he joined the team that had welcomed the young Ivan Basso in the past and learned all the tips and tricks about training and racing. The Italian has a special liking for the monuments of cycling, with Milan-Sanremo obviously at the top of his list, and admires a rider like Fabian Cancellara for his racing style and panache. His goal for this year is to step up as a cyclist, help the team as much as possible and, who knows, go for a win when the possibility is there.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-silvestre.png

Despite the legacy of his grandfather, who finished on the podium of the Tour of Portugal, Fabio Silvestre turned his attention to cycling only at age 16. Straight away he started winning, both in time trials and in sprints. His ability in both skills is largely demonstrated in the palmares he gathered in the Portuguese U23 Road and Time Trial Championships. In the 2012 season, Silvestre is determined to help the team win as much as possible and hopes to come out victorious himself when opportunities arise.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-brambilla.png

Giorgio Brambilla has a cobblestone in his stomach. He is fascinated by Paris-Roubaix, more than by any other race of the cobblestone classics. Having finished twice on the podium of the U23 edition of the Queen of the Classics, Brambilla has his mind set on winning the race sooner rather than later. Surprisingly, it was the legacy of Felice Gimondi, who raced long before Brambilla was born, that made the young Italian’s interest shift from motorsport to cycling. His uncle, just as fond of the magic of the Spring Classics as the young Giorgio, encouraged him to train hard and made him realize that he had a talent to do well in the toughest races on the calendar.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-ezquerra.png

Jesus Ezquerra was introduced to cycling by his hometown friends, each one older and racing on a regional level in Cantabria. From 11 years old, Ezquerra started participating in races and immediately showed great versatility and ability for recuperation, two characteristics that led him towards the second place in the 2011 Copa de España. Ezquerra dreams of two jerseys: the pink Giro d’Italia leader jersey and the estimable rainbow jersey. For this season, his goal is to support the team as much as possible and prove his talent when given his own free hand.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-zangerle.png

Besides being a bright prospect for Luxembourgish cycling, Joel Zangerle is also a student in Culture and Communication at the university of Nancy, France. There he holds the status of athlete, which allows him to combine and nurture the talents he holds. He was introduced to cycling via his older brother, who raced at a regional level and coached his young brother, who early on showed signs of future success. Eager to develop into a more complete athlete and support the team where needed, Zangerle is keen on performing well in the stage races that Leopard - Trek will select him for.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-kern.png

Julian Kern dreams of one day winning Liège-Bastogne-Liège, a race he loves for its succession of climbs and the overall difficulty that the oldest Classic on the calendar presents. The 2011 European Championships course in Offida, Italy was similarly hard and Kern turned out victorious in the race. Kern’s first steps in cycling were instigated by his uncles, both racing on a regional level at the time, and Jan Ullrich’s years in cycling’s top tier. In 2006, having spent one year as an exchange student in the US, he travelled home with a backpack full of motivation to try his destiny and become a professional bike rider.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-hofstetter.png

Oliver Hofstetter comes from a family where everyone but his father was devoted to sports. Cycling didn’t stand out until he was about 10 and started racing, winning every race he participated in for the next three years. Even as a Junior, when knee problems arose, Hofstetter didn’t lose his appetite for wins. For 2012, he has marked the date of the World Championships in red on his calendar and hopes to bring a lot to the team with his calm nature, a trait he shares with his friend and fellow countryman Oliver Zaugg of the ProTeam.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PCM%20Leopard%20Trek/pres-schechter.png

Like most of his teammates, Pit Schlechter embarked on cycling from a very young age. Through a friend, he was introduced to the sport, but didn’t feel urged to reserve all his energy for the bike. At age 15 he set his football ambitions aside to focus exclusively and passionately on cycling. For Schlechter, bike riding is a lifestyle and a school for life; a true passion. And even though he has been successful as a young cyclocross man, he feels that his future lies in such races as the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Fellow countryman Kim Kirchen, who achieved his best results in hard stage races and one-day classics like the Flèche Wallonne, is a true example for Schlechter, who admires the aggressiveness and straightforwardness of Kirchen.

Very nice team choice, and remember to increase Julian Kern's stats a bit if they're not updated with the new DB:
