Which countries get tri-color jerseys? Also why do they get them and some others don't? Does it have to do with the difficulty of the competition in that country? |

France and Germany (given above) have tri-color national flags
Their cycling federations decided to use that as the basis for their national jerseys.
Some riders wear a national champions jersey as a reward for winning the National Championships of their country.
The jersey doesnt have to be tri-color, and it does not show a difference in difficulty.

I guess more of what I meant was, why are some countries jerseys a full jersey scheme (belgian and france) and some are just a little thing on the jersey (Norway, USA, Eng)? Is that just way the country designed theirs? I think that National Champions jerseys should be the jersey they wear at the World Championship. |

Each federation publishes rules that the jersey must follow, then the team decides what to do within those rules.
For example, Pozzato at Katusha had to change jersey because it did not follow italian rules.

GBR and Netherlands have the same color scheme, pehaps it's to avoid these things.

I'm not so sure that they are set in stone...?
I remember Hushovd going all out on his jersey a while back, compared to EBH's bands now.
And what about the Leopard/Radioshack nat champ jerseys which were/are all just small stripes?
Maybe I'm mis-interpreting the topic. |

No you have it spot on. This is what I was really talking about. Matthew Busche who was the ex-champion of America was on Radioshack-Nissan, and his jersey was a normal RSN jersey with an american flag stripe across the middle where the white was. It would be awesome to see a full out American flag design for the champion of america, or a full out Union Jack for GBR.
The French and Belgian champion jerseys are so prominent because of how different they are from all other jerseys and thats how I feel all national champions should be. They should stick out so that everyone knows they are champion |

At some point in the mid-90's during the Swiss championship, Laurent Dufaux was asked to slow down, because his team sponsor, Festina, wouldn't be happy with him carrying a (too) distinctive jersey. Dufaux ended second (IIRC). Money comes first... |

Yeah, in 2010, Cofidis didn't let Taaramae participate in the Estonian Championships, because they didn't want him to wear the Estonian champion jersey in the Tour de France.. The Estonian colours (blue, black, white) are too different from the red of Cofidis. Taaramae's teammate in Cofidis, Kalle Kriit, did start, and he won  |
