Do your riders place themselfs like that too?
For me they often place themself in the far right of the peloton where there is absolutely no pace...
Do I do something wrong?

At the start of the race ( or even pause the race as the riders await the start ) and put them on free effort or relay on about 70-75. When they are at front of the peleton, stop relaying and use maintain position.
Until the end of the race or until they have energy left, they will maintain their position almost always at the top of the peleton.

I put them on the standard effort which works just fine. I think it is a waste of energy to increase to 70-75

at the start of the race right click on a rider near the front of the peloton and click take postion here the rider will stay in that postion no matter were the rider you right lcicked on moved so you can place them at the front 20th back 30th midway in the peleton etc... |

As long as they're in the peloton they don't waste more energy, not on 75 and not on 90. |

What if I want them to stay in the back? In reality riders save more energy staying there (I think, at least), than in the front. Problem is that they always position themselves to the far of one of the sides, which makes them actually use MORE energy than if they were in the very front... |

You can also position them in the middle but it is not wise to have them at the very end, due to many reasons. |
