Tour de l'Avenir 2012 - Stage 2
SportingNonsense
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-1.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wiggle.png Luke Rowe delivered to win the first stage, but it couldnt have been much closer with i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Adam Blythe. Today is a chance for Round 2.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/milka.png Leigh Howard had the train, but timed his sprint poorly, while i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/festina.png Michael Matthews failed to even make it to the sprint.

And the best of the rest yesterday were i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Sam Bennett, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Genki Yamamoto and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/BPost.png Joeri Stallaert.

Here is the breakaway.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.pngBattaglin
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/eb.pngSribar

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/saab.pngLavery

Just the one sprint, and the only 3 interested are those who didnt lose time yesterday.

3i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/GB.pngPerrett

But the break doesnt stand much chance against the chase of Milka and Rapha.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-4.jpg

With 18km to go, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/GB.png George Atkins attack the peloton. Inside the final 10km, he is now tearing the break apart.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-5.jpg

He has a 30 second solo lead with 5km to go

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-6.jpg

But the Milka juggernaut kicks in to gear. Atkins is caught as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/milka.png Theo Reinhardt sprints past him with 2.7km to go.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-7.jpg

They line up in a similar order to Stage 1:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/milka.pngReinhardt
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/milka.pngHoward

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/GB.pngMcLay
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/focus.pngKirsch
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.pngKwiatkowski

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-8.jpg

Howard manages to wait until 1.4km to sprint today. Too early again though...

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-9.jpg

There's a risk of Rowe being boxed in as Bennett moves up on the side, and Blythe launches his move, but Blythe moves over too far and the gap is there

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-10.jpg

And with a clean run to the line, it's all too easy. 2 wins in a row for Rowe!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/avenir2-11.jpg

Another 2nd for Blythe, while Coutinho just edges Zabel and Bennett for 3rd. Sagan up there aswell - perhaps targeting the Points jersey in the long run?
