I'm sure there is a thread about this already, but I couldn't really find one after 5 minutes of looking so......
Anyway, I'm basically set on buying a laptop. The problem is, I dont really know anything about them.
All I have a general understanding of, is that RAM, Processor and graphics card are important if you want to be playing games on high settings!
I probably wouldn't have made this thread if PCM was not one of my main concerns! I want to play it on high settings and most websites only show how a laptop would run on MW3 or BF3 f.e.
My current Computer System settings are:
Spoiler
Vista Home Premium 32-Bit
Intel Core 2 CPU 2.13 GHz
2 GB RAM
And my GFXs card is Nvidia GeForce GT 220
600gb Hard Drive
With those settings I can nearly play PCM on max settings (somehow).
I have been looking at the Dell XPS 17 (here are its specs)
Spoiler
2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-2450M processor (2.50 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.10 GHz)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit, English
6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
750GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
GFX Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 550M 1GB graphics with Optimus
I'm only guessing but this laptop seems more powerful than my main computer, but how does the graphics card match up? Would it also play PCM on fairly high settings?
I would look at Alienware, but I dont want to be labelled as a computer geek Plus the prices are insane.
My price range is from about $600-1000 and the XPS 17 is currently $899 on the dell site.
If anyone has any suggestions inside my price range that would play PCM at fairly high settings, please let me know, and also tell me if my potential laptop would indeed play PCM at higher settings than my current PCM, which is my assumption at this moment.
(feel free to just share what your laptop is too if you want)
Thanks for taking the time to read (if you do read, of course)

XPS 17 sounds like a good buy, it's graphics GT 550M than GeForce GT 220
I'll try to look into few more as options as buying a computer/laptop from maker's website might be bit unnecessary as it will cost unnecessarily more.

Thank you everyone!
jseadog, a laptop that plays PCM full graphics for $250? Show me to this site, if that is possible!
Thanks Alakagom. Theoretically, that laptop should be able to play PCM better than my current desktop! Thanks! And a good bit of advice there too
And Crommy, that site is brilliant thanks so much for posting!

I bought an XPS15 one and a half years ago and it works perfectly fine with the highest settings. Only in MSR and the likes, I have to turn it down a bit. Other games work fine as well. I'm quite satisfied with this laptop. Only downsides are that it gets pretty hot and the battery service life is rather low.

Okay for those that dont know I've now bought a laptop.
However this is my first computer of my own, and the one I'm on currently has aged horribly. It has become really slow, and there is a lot of crap on it.
Could anyone help me with things that are a must for new computers/laptops?
I have heard its good to defrag your computer every so often as that stops it from slowing down as soon, but I dont really know what that means. I can get my own anti-virus and stuff like that.
For a laptop its good to have a cooling mat I've heard.
Any help would be nice.

I dont know about the cooling thing, but i can help you with defrag. It is about connecting the empty spaces on your hard drive to the whole and it can speed up its work if it droped.
You can run it from the start menu or just type defrag into the windows search. It takes the while, but it is worth it. I would run it several times a year.
And of course get yourself a good anti-virus and anti-spyware options (people sometimes forget about spyware and it could do annoying things on your computer).
But most important is to act smart and do not fill your laptop with waste. What i do is to keep my system clean and thin, when you dont need a program, uninstall it and delete the files that remained possibly. Also dont have hundreds of programs installed, it is useless and it slows down the windows.
I also reinstall my windows once a year, to clean all the mess and start with the clean sheet, i backup my files earlier of course...

Yeah, CC cleaner is good, it also clean up your registry, which could be very messy in few months...

If you use Ccleaner, you might as well use Ccenhancer, which adds a lot of stuff to the cleaning list. |
