I'd like to welcome everyone to France as I make my debut as a reporter for the Seine - Marne - Seine Pro Tour Classic. The majority of day the riders will be punished by difficult hills until they head into the heart of France for the finishing circuits around the Champs Elysees. Unlike the Tour de France that concluded last month, here we don't know if the sprinters will make it onto Champs to decide this classic. So let's look at the favourites ...
Tom Boonen is the guy to beat, especially after seeing him get 2nd in the Olympic RR. Boonen has the power to get over the hills to make it to Paris and can sprint with the best of them. Also not to mention he will be a free agent at the end of the season with Nestlé folding at the end of the season, so he is racing for a new contract.
Sam Bewley has the ability to keep up with Boonen on the flat but many are questioning if he can stay in the peloton during the bumpy stuff. If he can stay out of trouble then Boonen should be worried.
Daniele Bennati joins the top dogs as cio93 and his CT Puma - SAP squad hopes their Italian has enough to conquer the hills. And if he can it sure will be fun to see the faces of these Pro Tour managers after a CT rider stealing their classic.
Filippo Pozzato, Olympic Road Race Gold Medalist, should be right in the hunt as the profile is similar to the Olympic course. And he brings a strong helper in Diego Ulissi as well.
Michael Van Stayen leads Bacardi - Ignis with strong man Marcus Burghardt unclear as to what his role might be. Protecter or Attacker?
The field is scattered with some great sprinters hoping to survive for a possible bunch sprint including Romain Vanderbiest, Francisco Ventoso, Matthew Goss, Maximiliano Richeze, Kobe Vanoverschelde (Or Edvald Boasson Hagen?) Óscar Avelino, Anthony Lavoine and Dan Holloway. Martin Pedersen, Borut Bozic and Raúl Granjel Cabrera who won stage 21 of the Tour de France on Champs Elysees just a few weeks ago.
Then there are the teams that decided to go with puchuers,
Duque, Ponzi, and El Fares (Although Crommy still has sprinter Alexandre Aulas as backup as well).
Lastly, but not least, there is Jack Wolfskin and Vesuvio, who on paper would probably like their chances in the breakaway more than anything else.
It is set to be a wild and unpredictable classic, is there any other kind?

Nice to see another reporter, well-written introduction to the race.
Would be nice to see the Olympic winner prove his worth, but it's really a open race, depending on how the hills are taken. The long, flat run in should make it "easy" for the peloton to control breakaway/late attackers, meaning it'll probably be a sprint, but how many riders will be up there? |

This race should be perfect for Ventoso, so it's just a matter of every good sprinter dropping, but he hangs in there.

Hrgh. That profile looks much harder than I thought it would be.
i fear some narrow roads on these hills causing splits, are there any?
Still, that is the race I looked forward to for a long time, and I hope it delivers.
Bennati should definately be up for a podium if it's a bunch sprint, but the pretty massive amount of strong puncheurs increases the chance of a mid-race breakaway making it, especially when some sprinter teams are involved with Ulissi, van Garderen or Bakelandts.

A lot will depend how fast the race is. Ive tested it out quite a few times when making the stage and the amount of people left at the finish can vary quite considerably - it might be one for the sprinters, or the puncheurs might end up sprinting it out.
Obviously by bringing Schleck, I hope for the latter.

I actually don't know why i assembled my team like this. Steegmans not here, but Burghardt is. However, if the race gets harder, Burghardt should do good. That is, if he will attack, and not protect Van Stayen (what i think will actually happen).

Good introduction, actually didn't realize it was your first. Sent not only Goss but also Van Garderen and Summerhill here so i should have some cards to play if it is a hard pace. Looking forward to it

Nice preview. I hope for a top 10 result as I have both Bewley and Efimkin in my squad here, it should be nice unpredictable race. I only hope a breakaway won't win this and take a masive amount of points once again..

Hope it's really selective and Gilbert wins a puncheurs' sprint. Otherwise, I'd need a very lucky Bozic...

Some sort of magic result ala the one by Löfkvist a season or two again - that's what I need now in the rest of the races
Not the favourite here, obviously, but there's a couple of riders who can do a top 10 on a good day. |

Bakelants and Vanderbiest here for Pearl Adidas. Just hope that Bakelants isn't used as a peloton killer like in the Olympics.

Turned out to be a really hard race. I do like that Van Stayen actually managed to hang on. Should have send Steegmans here though, but i underrated the difficulty of the course when i saw the drawn profile.

I was glad to see so many of my riders make it through the end of the hills, but with Summerhill and Van Garderen up there was hoping for a little more to show for it.

That was a good result. 5th and 6th here, I suspect is almost as good as a win, so I'm happy. I desperately need the points if I'm to stand a shot at the top 5 PT rankings. I really need that otherwise my goals are one big fuckup after the misfortune in both the Giro and the Tour.
Nice one!

Haha, what an awful race for us. Best result was 54th! It was interesting to see how it played out though
