We reach the end of the race with the traditional Champs Elysses finale. The stage the sprinters most want to win, but not many survived the Alpe d'Huez stage! Double stage winner Granjel Cabrera did though, as did single stage winners Vanderbiest and Ventoso. The two other notable sprinters left are a stage winner from last year, van Stayen and a rider who we've seen pointlessly attacking in the mountains more than sprinting so far: Holloway.
With Swift gone though, there won't be Vesuvio to control flat stages as before - and if the sprinters arent up to it, could we see an unusual breakaway victory in Paris? Alternatively, we might see the leading GC riders sprint it out!
Speaking of which, Damiano Cunego looks set to secure his first Tour de France triumph - and he gets us underway.
But the attacks quickly start.
A. Gilanipoor S. Morabito J. Fuglsang C. Riblon Y. Nepomnyachsniy
Others follow, but it is swiftly chased down.
A chance for the traditional winner's team photo then. Cunego and his 5 remaining Cafe de Colombia teammates come to the front.
No time for champagne though, the attacks are off again.
A. Kunshin J. Fuglsang K. Lalouette B. Khalilikhosroshani
More attackers eventually create a group of 16 with a minute's lead.
J. Suaza R. Di Gregorio S. Morabito R. Kreuziger Y. Nepomnyachsniy D. Di Luca P. Deignan S. Cummings G. Veloso J. Fuglsang C. Riblon K. Lalouette A. Castro Rodriguez B. Khalilikhosroshani A. Kunshin T. Pinot
But 16 is of course too many. Bacardi, Pearl, Sony, Jack Wolfskin and Pendletons all have men in the chasing relay train, and the minute gap is wiped out.
Amazingly, this means we will have an intermediate sprint that is actually contested. And the sprinters do go for it, despite it meaning nothing.
Ventoso got the early jump and a good lead, and he held on to take it despite Van Stayen and Vanderbiest closing fast.
1 F. Ventoso 2 M. Van Stayen 3 R. Vanderbiest
Holloway and Cancellara were the 2 others to go for it.
And it would hardly be a proper flat stage in this race if the King of the Mountains didnt attack! Duret is off again.
Two riders follow him, and this time - with only 3, the break is allowed to grow.
S. Duret D. Mehr-Wenige L. Ten Dam
There's one last climb in the race, will Duret win this one aswell?
Not this time. In fact, he is almost dropped under the pace of Mehr-Wenige!
1 D. Mehr-Wenige 2 L. Ten Dam 3 S. Duret
The Champs Elysses arrives! 50km to go, and the leading trio have a 5 minute advantage.
As the peloton arrive, Cafe de Colombia are all towards the front - but it is Pearl, Bacardi and Sony Ericsson doing the pacesetting, chasing down the break.
40km to go, and the gap is 4 minutes
But the break of 3 has to contend with the following in the relay train:
D. Grabovski M. Keizer S. Pardilla E. Berthou P. Panayotov P. Velits L. Fernández Oliveira S. Pauwels
And by 15km to go, the gap is down to 45 seconds.
And within 3km, they are caught. But immediately, De Gendt and Calzati attack.
Only Calzati stays clear but the gap is small
He is swept up with 6km to go
And with 5km to go, with Cunego keeping towards the front of the peloton, 3 sprint trains seem to be being prepared.
R. van der Hugenhaben J. RodrÃguez FJ. Terciado Y. Trofimov J. Vastaranta M. Perget R. Granjel Cabrera R. Vanderbiest M. Van Stayen D. Holloway
On paper, the Sony Ericsson train is strongest - it is similar to one they used earlier in the race, only Granjel and Trofimov were in the opposite positions. Trofimov won that day!
And sure enough, van der Hugenhaben surges to the front. Bacardi in particular are left for dead.
Pearl are doing a good job at keeping up by the final turn at 3km to go, while Holloway is floating around, not committing to a particular train.
Ventoso has tagged on to the Bacardi train, while Cunego is a little way back and seems unlikely to be going for an unlikely sprint win.
And here goes the sprint then, as Trofimov launches
Vastaranta responds and tries to chase down Trofimov, but the Sony Ericsson pair have a good gap
It seems like this could be a 2 horse race, but suddenly Cunego is coming into play - getting an effective leadout from Florencio.
Before Cunego is allowed to close the gap though, both Granjel Cabrera and Vanderbiest launch - almost simultaneously.
Vanderbiest tries to close on Granjel Cabrera, while Holloway and Van Stayen are finally getting up to speed behind.
With the line infront of him, Granjel Cabrera knows he has got it, despite Vanderbiest closing in
A 3rd stage win of the race for the Cuban sprinter! Sony Ericsson have taken a lot of wins from this race!
Vanderbiest takes 2nd, while Taylor Phinney is a suprise 3rd - ahead of the fast finishing Van Stayen and Holloway.
Trofimov held on for 6th, while it is 7th for Cunego as he secures the Tour de France!
Two trips to the podium for Cunego, with the Green jersey aswell, while Duret takes the Polkadots, Madrazo the White jersey and Wiggle are the best team.
