It couldn`t start much more flat than today. It`s looking like a pure sprinter stage and with all the top sprinters participating nobody can really think of something different.
Top favourites surely Mohs, Vantomme and Haedo.
Nine riders in todays break. Focus with 3 and Koppert with 2 having the tactical advantage.
Aistrup
Ghyllebert
Pineau
McCarthy, Kamyshev
Thill, Nechita, Jungels
Forke
So Cailfornia is putting more pressure on Pokerstars, Rothaus and Unicredit with Napolitano.
First sprint of the day and Aistrup wins ahead of Pineau and Forke.
Behind Rothaus as only sprinter team is doing the work. Good for them that other teams like Bpost and Volkswagen are supporting them. Probably due to their GC favourites.
Not good for them, that their GC rider Boom is doing a lot of work for Vantomme.
Pineau takes the first KoM points ahead of Aistrup and Ghyllebert. We have one more KoM point so there surely will be a fight for the jersey.
Same riders but different order. Ghyllebert takes the points this time. Pineau 2nd and Aistrup 3rd.
This means that Pineau will wear the jersey tomorrow 2pts ahead of Ghyllebert and another two behind Aistrup.
Still Rothaus and Volkswagen doing the most work behind and still Boom is doing a lot as also their 2nd time trialist Velits. All-In for Vantomme obviously. But also Pokerstars are seen with one of their riders now.
With 42km left the gap is down to 3min and melting.
The last intermediate is also going to the breakaway and Aistrup once again proves to be the most active here taking the points ahead of Pineau and McCarthy.
Rothaus really powers now supported by Unicredit for the first time. Napolitano is one of the fast men here and surely should be counted to teh 3 big favourites before.
With 12km to go Rothaus has 6 riders in front with Vantomme being the last there.
Napolitano has 2 guys ahead of him, while Haedo is behind Vantomme and Mohs isn`t positioned very well at the moment.
Also the group is caught now.
Rothaus was obviously too early in the win as just Baumann is leading Vantomme through the 5km mark. It`S Unicredit now forming their train for Napolitano.
Haedo, Haussler, Dekkers and Breschel behind the Rothaus train, while a single Pokerstars rider is still waiting for Mohs coming to the front.
With 3km left it`s Rothaus again. Baumann starting the sprint very early with Vantomme in 2nd position. On the left Napolitano still has 2 helpers left and Haedo and Mohs finally decided to take this train, while Haussler, Breschel and Dekkers as also Croket and Van Loocke still hang behind Vantomme.
Vantomme comes into the wind. This might be too early. Napolitano still has one helper left.
Crash in the final. Biggest names Rolland and Velits. So for both of them the top10 overall will be very hard now. Especially first one probably had bigger goals after his overall win in Canada.
Vantomme indeed was too early in the wind. Haussler is coming around him now. Also Breschel comes around being pushed by the crowd bringing Dekkers with him and also Napolitano and Mohs are coming on the left. Haedo can`t follow surprisingly.
Big surprise. None of the top favourites wins the opening stage. It`s Hans Dekkers taking a great win. Napolitano finishes 2nd ahead of Haussler. Mohs as 4th pretty disappointing as also Haedo`s 5th Vantomme 7th.
