Stage 8 and it's the final chance for people to create gaps, although the long downhill will probably cause it to come back together. Lobato, Ospina and Vicioso are favourites.

The bunch pulls back the break and Jerome attacks to take the climb, protecting his teammates lead in the competition, Dietzeker is second and Debusschere is 3rd. This means Jerome failed, as Dietzeker is now the leader in the KoM classification

Deitzker wins the climb to secure the jersey, Jerome is second with Gallagher third.

Over the top the bunch is 7'49" behind with 78km of downhill to go. They need to be within 3 minutes for Vicioso to keep his lead. Ortega, Sobal, Ospina and Cicaresse all missed the split

50km to go and the second peloton are still chasing hard, just 50 seconds behind the main bunch.

2 SaMol riders have held off the ten chasers and now the gap is going out. It's 1'10".

30km to go for the back to 10 man break and they still have 4'45". It will be between them for the win.

The final little climb allows the chasers to get close, but they can't quite close the gap.

None of them have the energy, or the fast twitch muscles, needed to sprint as Jerome leads the chasers to close the gap

The clock is at around 3 minutes as the peloton cross the line. They were gunning the flat as well. Bodnar is at +2'56" after his bonus seconds so it will be touch and go for the overall lead.

The chase group are two minutes later.

The final gap: +3'07". This means that Vicoso drops to 7th, with the break taking the top 6, with Jerome at +5" in second, then Barbe and Chacon. Dietziker is 5th, and gets the KoM jersery, while Gallagher takes 6th.

In the other categories, Van der Sanden missed the split, meaning Hasanoui only has to worry about Lloyd over the next three days to win the young riders jersey. All the sprinters get no points, and despite having no one in the break, Gazprom extend their lead in the team competition.
