Ras de Cymru Stage 6
mb2612
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru057.jpg
So we come to the final stage, and all depends on how hard the last climb is. It has never been raced before professionally, and with Froome, Di Maggio and Flugel looking to go from the bottom. How will Wolf hold on?
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru134.jpg

Mandri, Partridge, Ovechkin, Oliveira, Kwok is the order through the first sprint. Mandri jumping to 8th overall with those bonus seconds
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru135.jpg

More riders attack though, and 16 is too many. So the peloton pull back 9
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru136.jpg

Partridge is the only rider who cares about the climb, so he takes first, Brenes and Velits are next. He now needs a top 2 at the next climb to take the jersey back
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru137.jpg

The peloton seem happy wwith a group of 11 now: Brenes, Oliveira, Fothen, Partridge, Reda, Ovechkin, Degenkolb, Velits, Schadlich, Kwok and Mandri. Mandri is the only threat to the overall.
Nishitani will also join later
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru138.jpg

Partridge, Fothen, Degenkolb is the order at the sprint
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru139.jpg

87km to go, the break are 4 minutes clear. Roy thinks it's a good time to attack
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru140.jpg

Oz are keeping up a reasonable pace, and with 80km to go 32 riders miss a split. Trusov is the most notable name.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru141.jpg

Cerne pulls it back together
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru142.jpg

Smukulis, Clement and Iglinski now attack the peloton. 73km to go for them.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru143.jpg

Roy joins the leaders
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru144.jpg

Clearly Oz are not inspiring confidence, Arashiro, Elijzen and Sano now attack
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru145.jpg

They make it a chase 6, 2'32" behind the break, and 1'03" in front of the bunch
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru146.jpg

Roy's pace has caused Degenkolb, Kwok, Fothen, Schadlich and Nishitani to be dropped
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru147.jpg

They are caught by the chase group, meaning we now have 4 Meiji riders here. Elijzen and Smukulis don't aprove and so attack.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru148.jpg

47km to go and Mandri leads Roy and Ovechlin over the climb. Partridge hasn't managed to get any points!
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru150.jpg

45 seconds later come all the late attackers, bar Arashiro
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru151.jpg

At +1'53" comes the rest of the break
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru152.jpg

And at +2'36" comes the peloton, where no one is helping Oz.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru153.jpg

The Arashiro group is caught.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru154.jpg

2 minutes up the road the other groups merge.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru155.jpg

Rapha decide to help the chasing, and the gap drops to 1'32" with 33km to go.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru156.jpg

These hills are short and sharp, and the bunch can't close. THe gap is 2'04" with 25km to go, but Bobridge has pulled 12 riders clear of the peloton. Froome, Konovalovas, Di Maggio and Flugel are all there, as is Wolf
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru157.jpg

It's pulled back together though
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru158.jpg

Vanspeybrouck, Pasamonetes and Lowe all attack with 22km to go and the gap now down to 1'45"
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru159.jpg

Bobridge keeps up his immense work, holding onto their back wheels
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru160.jpg

However he pulls over to let Rapha help and they melt away. Froome makes his move. 15km left
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru161.jpg

Flugel is following
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru162.jpg

They, Lowe and Vanspeybrouck make it to the front group
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru163.jpg

Flugel pushes on, Roy, Elizjen, Iglinski and Sano counter. Ahead Partridge seems to have slipped away while I wasn't looking
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru164.jpg

Now Roy keeps up the pressure, stringing out the whole break
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru165.jpg

9.5km to go and he has sat up, Vanspeybrouck now attacks. Clement and Smukulis are following.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru166.jpg

Vanspeybrouck sits up, but Clement keeps pushing, Roy and Iglinski are also following
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru167.jpg

Flugel and Froome sprint for the bonus seconds,
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru168.jpg

and due to the being after the sprint banner, Froome gets them, Flugel gets the 4, with Smukulis the 2
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru170.jpg

The climb starts with the peloton 45 seconds down
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru171.jpg

Di Maggio, Tolleson, Nicacio and Morizot all immediately attack. Wolf seems to be tiring

Froome leads under the 5km to go banner
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru172.jpg

Morziot now shuts the gap, Di Maggio, Rast and Boom are following him up
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru173.jpg

Flugel know he has to attack, Froome, and Sano follow. As does Di Maggio from slightly further back
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru174.jpg

Froome takes the lead, Roy and Clement are also trying to follow.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru175.jpg

Froome finds himself with a small gap to the chasing 4 of Flugel, Sano, Di Maggio and Roy
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru177.jpg

Roy and Sano can't keep the pace
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru178.jpg

2.4km to go and Di Maggio has almost caught Froome, Froome just needs to stay with the other 2 and he will take the overall win.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru179.jpg

Flugel cracks
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru180.jpg

As the sprint starts Di Maggio has cracked as well and drops back to Flugel
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru181.jpg

The two of them close on Froome
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru182.jpg

But not enough as Froome takes the stage and the overall, set up by his early TT on stage 1.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru183.jpg

Di Maggio holds off Flugel for second
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru184.jpg

Roy and Sano just hold off the bunch
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru185.jpg

Lead in by Reus for 6th, Van der Velde, Konnovalovas and Lowe have hung in here to make it an excellent result for Cyclovox
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru186.jpg

Bobridge dropped back to help Wolf, who had an awful day, finishing 5 minutes after the leaders. Bobridge probably could have stayed in that front group and taken 5th overall had he ridden for himself.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/cym/cymru187.jpg

So Froome gets the overall, Flugel does enough for second, Clcyovox get 3 in the top ten, while Ignatiev and Kiryenka get an annonymous 5th and 6th. OZ fall out of contention completely, but will still have picked up some good points here.
