Welcome to the 8th stage in Switzerland. It looks like something for the sprinters. On the other side there are some hills in the final and so it could come to some attacks as well.
10 riders in the break of the day. 3 high KoM riders including Tschopp. But it`s just Pluchkin, who could win the jersey from him. So nothing to worry about actually.
Some pretty known faces as most of them already have been visible during the last week.
And with Tschopp and Loosli again 2 Suisse riders, who have been very active so far in their home race.
Bertagnolli
Ginanni
Kennaugh, Deignan
Tschopp
König
Sys
Loosli
Rodrigues
Camier
Wikipedia wants this stage win and so they do everything to bring Van Heerden in a good position. Also B&O and Pearl Adidas are seen in the front but not working as much.
With 100km and 8'30 advance the sprinter teams do the whole work. Wikipedia got some support by Bacardi, who already won the only real sprint with Steegmans. Nothing to see of Vesuvio for Swift or Sony for Cabrera.
Rodrigues takes the 2nd sprint ahead of Bertagnolli and Ginanni while König won the 1st with Ginanni and Camier following.
No fighting at both as they just want the stage win and won`t bother to collect some bonus seconds for nothing.
With 80km the gap is still over 10min. Looking pretty good for them as the pace behind isn`t that fast.
10km later the advance is even above 13min. That means we have a new virtual race leader. Rodriguez is just 13'02 back as 28th.
Obviously B&O also realize that this can become far too dangerous and send 2 riders to the front.
Still the gap is widening. 58km and now 15'30 for the break.
Can Webeffect really surprise today?
Coming to the end phase. Ginanni sprints for the KoM points. He can`t reach Tschopp but at least coming onto the podium. Bertagnolli and Rodrigues follow behind.
He also takes the next points and is now 3rd in the KoM ranking just 3 points behind leader Tschopp. Due to his attacking there aren`t all riders behind him. Camier, Tschopp, Loosli, Sys and Kennaugh lost contact.
So we won`t see the first Suisse stage win today.
At least the peloton finally did something and so the advance is down to 10min and no danger for the top riders anymore.
König in the bad position to start the sprint. Bertagnolli, Ginanni, Rodrigues and Deignan behind him.
Deignan and Rodrigues have problems to follow. Therefore Ginanni is coming fast on the right, while Bertagnolli is still waiting.
This should be obvious now. Ginanni surely is the strongest. He even creates quite a bit gap. Also Bertagnolli is coming around the young Czech.
Huge sprint by Ginanni and well deserved stage win for him. Good tactics by Vespa today.
16s later Bertagnolli comes in 2nd ahead of König and Rodrigues who obviously found his 2nd air in the end. Deignan just behind.
Rodriguez climbs on the 15th overall while Deignan also enters the top20 as 19th now.
A bit more than 1min behind Tschopp`s group also comes in. Great success for him winning the KoM shirt in his home race. Just like Loosli he will enter the top30 after today.
Also we see a surprising change in the team rankings. For most of the race it was a fight between UBS and Nestle. Then Vespa entered this duo. But with two riders in todays break Pendleton`s Twicer gained lots of time on the others and have the top position now.
9'08 later the peloton comes to the finish. Kreder leading the group with all favourites. Luckily no single crash today.
With high interest we expect the final ITT tomorrow. Pluchkin looking very good in first and also Fothen has a nice gap. But behind there is a close fight for the podium and the rest of the top10.
