Vuelta a Guatemala Stage 9
mb2612
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat036.jpg
The final flat stage, can one of Sinner or Bazajev beat Davis? I doubt it, especially as the hilly nature will favour Davis, who picked up a strong result yesterday.

Durbridge, Balloni, Bonaford is the order over the first climb, but Hollsiter have kept a high pace and are close behind.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat255.jpg

They are pulled back on the next climb, so Lund tries an attack.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat256.jpg

Lund and balloni lead over the top, with Mercado coming over in third at the front of the peloton.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat257.jpg

Balloni wins the sprint
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat258.jpg

Davis wins the peloton sprint for 3rd.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat259.jpg

The chaos allows, Montenegro, Tolleson and Cheung to join the break
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat260.jpg

Tolleson takes sprint two, Lund and Montenegro are next.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat261.jpg

Montenegro and Lund follow Tolleson through the final sprint as well.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat262.jpg

While in no mans land Petrie-Armstrong has attacked the peloton.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat263.jpg

Now Balloni beats Montenegro and Lund, this time to a climb
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat264.jpg

Petrie-Armstrong joins the leaders and takes them over the top of the big climb, Lund and Montenegro take 2nd and 3rd again. The gap is 4 minutes with 50km to go, but it's all downhill so I back the break yet again.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat265.jpg

Vasquez and Carrar try an attack on the downhill with 12km to go and the break still at 2 minutes. This is very brave by the climbers.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat266.jpg

They are pulled back, but with 10km to go Kiverlivski, Lovkvist, Carrara and Roulston attack
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat267.jpg

Up front Montenegro and Petrie-Armstrong are clear
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat269.jpg

The final climb of the day nearly hits 10% as 1'30" separates the groups, despite them all being able to see one another.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat271.jpg

Kisverlovski attacks again, and Lovkvist and Carrara follow
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat272.jpg

They catch the break, but so does everyone else. Montenegro and Petrie-Armstrong are still clear.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat273.jpg

Montenegro wins the climb, also they are only halfway up. Kisverlovski attacks again, with Lovkvist, Carrara and PEterson following
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat274.jpg

4km to go and Lovkvist makes his move, Navarro joins the other names in trying to respond
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat276.jpg

This brings the peloton back together as well as pulling back Montenegro and Armstrong lite

The sprint starts with 3km to go, Carrara and Tolleson have an excellent chance here.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat277.jpg

Tolleson takes the lead as Davis tries to find a way through
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat278.jpg

Tolleson takers victory, while Davis was going fully 10km/h faster than everyone else but was so blocked in he could only get second
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat279.jpg

Carrara holds off Bazajev and Kisverlovski for third.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat280.jpg

A small split and again Stetina and Vasquez miss out. They really can't handle the hilly terrain.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat281.jpg

So Tolleson is in the break 2 days in a row, gets caught both days, but still wins back to back stages. Amazing stuff.

Davis was so quick though. Bazajev was cutting through the field but Davis was still cruising up to him when he wasn't stuck.

Durbridge unfortunately fell and had to withdraw.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/guat/Guat282.jpg

D2 watch: No one in the break today is a dissapointment. Esmaeli is the best on the stage in 19th, but Vasquez's error means Laverde Jiminez moves up to 8th overall, although I'm still not sure I would back him for a top ten with 11th just 21 seconds behind and a TT to come.
