Welcome to the last of the big sprinter’s classics, the 184km HC-classified ProRace Berlin. The big question on everyone’s lips is “can anyone beat Daniele Bennati?” The man has won two of the last three sprinters’ classics and the only reason he didn’t win the other one was thanks to a determined series of attacks in the last few laps. Even then he won the group sprint for 20th after crashing earlier. To spur him on to even greater heights he is riding at the head of a German team in this German race. He has a great team around him too with Gasparotto and Kvist to lead him out. All the cards are in his favour, but there is a huge startlist of 17 other teams all trying to dethrone the sprint King.
Unsurprisingly the rest of the world’s sprint talent is out for the HC classic win. A total of 57 riders here today have a sprint of 75 or greater. Let’s look through the other lead sprinters.
Danilo Naplitano leads the UniCredit team and will be hoping to take the win off his countryman. He came a rather disappointing 6th at the Rogaland GP and will be looking to improve that. He has a great team around him, with 4 riders who could potentially lead him out.
Rothaus is lead by Maxime Vantomme, who has otherwise given the sprinter’s classics a miss this season. He is so far winless, and Rothaus really need him to justify his huge wage soon. Could this be the race for him? Once again the German team have set this race as a target and once again there are numerous riders who could lead him out to perfection. He just has to find that little bit extra in his legs to get the results.
The most impressive of the German sprint talent at this race is Erik Mohs, who has showed all season that he is one of the best sprinters out there, starting with stage wins at the ProTour Tour of Qatar. Of the recent sprint classics he has only raced Rogaland GP, where he came in 8th after leading out Bennati. With fellow Germans Degenkolb and Kluge around him, he should be able to get into a good position to challenge for a big win on home soil.
Another German sprinter who will have high expectations for today is Gerald Ciolek, who is teaming up with Jiri Hochmann to create a double threat for Bianchi. There are numerous riders who should be able to get these two into position, so expect to see whoever has the better legs on the day to be up front fighting for the win.
Andre Greipel leads Team WWE and will be looking to make up for getting caught out by a crash at the Rogaland GP. There aren’t a lot of lead-out men in his team so he will largely be on his own. In a similar position are Tomas Vaitkus and Mitch Docker, who will have to work together to fight for position. One final German who will probably be worth noting is Heinrich Haussler, who generally performs well in the sprint classics and is always someone to look at in this sort of race.
There are numerous others who will hope to fight for a top 10 place here. The biggest names amongst these are Italain sprinter Francesco Chicchi, Oz’s aging leader Baden Cooke, Tour de Langkawi stage winner Bruno Santos, Jayco strongmen Chris Sutton and Carlos Manarelli, Koppert’s lead sprinter Hans Dekkers, the three Meiji riders Anuar, Arashiro and Park, almost any of the Tinkoff sprinters, the man coming off a personally disappointing Giro Oscar Gatto and another Giro rider Alberto Loddo. Strangely Hollister did not send either of their lead sprinters Davis and Serebriakov and instead they will probably be hoping for a breakaway win as Damian Martinez is their best sprinter here.

Flat as a pancake, by the looks not really my teams cup of tea.
Hoping to see them on the attack which I suspect is the only chance of a decent result or I suppose a decent place in the sprint train which may give us a shot at a top 10.
That's the target a top 10, but I think it is very unlikely. This is a race for the sprinters and I can't see Bennati being beaten in a straight out fight, his sprint train is very strong too.

Half expecting a shock break win, half expecting a completely unsurprising Bennati win. I just hope my duo can repeat what they did in the Down Under Classic, and one lead the other out. We need a good result, to break this string of appalling finishes.

Welcome to the last big sprinter classic and to the first one by star sprinter Vantomme. :-)
Beating Bennati might be hard but podium is our goal.
still tough against all the German and Italian sprinters. |

57 riders with a Sprint stat of 75 or higher?
I fancy Mohs for the win, although it'll be tough competition. |

I'd be more than pleased with a Top-10 after some rather bad results in last few races..

Looking at the field, I'm glad I didn't send Davis or Serebriakov.
Reckon a breakaway could win here, with so many good sprinters here, you just know it's not going to come down to a sprint |

thank you, it´s my winning goal
with so many big guns here, I can only pray for good daily form, huge amount of national bonus and enough of patience not to start sprinting too early (my dreaming scenario is similar to Qatar´s stage 2 )

Seeing how the last flat classics have ended, it will certainly be very hard to do anything against Bennati.
But with nationality bonus, I reckon Mohs might be the winner here, with Bennati and Vantomme rounding off the podium.

With so many good sprinters there's a lot of luck involved. May my name be my team's motto for this race

Traficante or Petrie-Armstrong to take the win from a break!!! Or even Oscar Gatto again??? No real hope if it comes down to a sprint. Speirs is fairly quick but doesn't seem to do lead outs. |

Honestly?
I have this as a Top5 goal, and that's all I expect.
Surely there's much more to gain, but the depth of the field here can shake things up quite a bit.
Being too far behind in the sprinters train, being boxed in by sprinters all over the road...too many unpredictable factors.
(I guess it's obvious that I'm pretty nervous about this? )

Time for Chicchi to shine
It will be very hard to get a top result here of course. |

I really have to hope for some national bonus effect for Greipel. Too many sprinters here.

This race has Bennati written all over it, but anything can happen. Incredibly strong field

Huge disappointment for me. Why bringing Cucinotta, Baumann and Gajek if it`s still not enough to do something in the final for Vantomme.
6th at least brings some points but surely not what I expect of Vantomme. |

So i was right, master of the sprints has won it, congrats. Also great 2nd for Vaitkus, meanwhile i feel sorry for Roturn as Vantomme continues failing ( it reminds me my own most expensive rider of the team, who is not able to even come close to the win).

Big congratulations to Puma - not only did they snare one of the best sprinters in the world they have a brilliant sprint train to match.
There were a lot of great sprinters there - it was always a long shot. Even so I am disappointed the majority of my squad were dropped in the finale, they should be stronger than that. Inexcusable for them to have a day off just because Manarelli was in the breakaway!

Well.. A 9th isn't that bad in the sprint, when looking at the field. At least I can say that WWE brings the entertainment!
