The Lincoln GP is the last big cobbled classic of the season. Criterium Hainleite in Germany may still be to come, but the amount of cobbles there is minimal. Here in Lincoln we have 15 laps to look forward to, each lap ending in the steep, narrow and cobbled Michaelgate climb. Positioning is going to be so vital, as the front of the peloton will have finished the climb before the back of the peloton has even started it.
The race is similar to Nokere-Koerse, which Damien Gaudin won, and he will hope for a repeat here. With Veelers and Boom absent, the only other winner of a cobbled classic this season here is Jerome Giaux. He will struggle to do aswell today though!
Lacking a classic are Team Bpost, but they are the form team for sure. Pieter Vanspeybrouck being the winner of the 5 Jours de Dunkerque ahead of teammate Niels Albert, who won the other cobbled stage race of the season - KBD De Panne Tour. Vanspeybrouck did win 4 classics last year though, and he will want to make that at least one this year.
Without a win at all has been an underperforming Adam Blythe, who does have home advantage today. Ricardo van der Velde is the best hope for fellow British team Cyclevox.
Sebastian Langeveld, Frederik Nolf, Arnaud Coyot and Matti Breschel lead their teams, with squads also from TCS Bank - surprisingly bringing their hilly A-team with the likes of Kolobnev, Cerne, Oz Cycling, Venchi and D2 wildcards Eurovision and Skoda-KB.

Seeing that Boom and Vantomme did pretty well in the other cobbled classics I really regret not sending them to Herning and Lincoln. Could have been nice amount pf points for less race days.
But obviously Vantomme`s schedule wasn`t planned that well and Boom is more or less concentrating on the time trial stage races. |

+ 1 I don't expect anything, I even wonder, why my team is here Even though I'm pretty sure, that the cobbles don't have a too bug impact here. So maybe some decent puncheurs can fight for the win.

The picture probably reveals all that needs to be said about my team - no doubt they will send the worst rider in the break and then lose position.
It suited me in Herning but not here, Bpost will cause a selection and only the best will be able to stick with it.

Hopefully Vanspeybrouck can do something really special here. The cobbled climb really suits him and might cause some trouble for the flat cobble specialists. I still expect a Blythe win though.

Well thats the Vanspeybrouck we remember from last year.
CTour manages to come up with another obscure British cobbled classic for Blythe and he still cannot win Only joking that climb is a bastard I have been to Lincoln and can well believe the result, it was too tough for a sprinter type like Blythe. Would he have done better if Thomas was here as well?
As predicted a pretty naff performance from my team, but lessons have been learned from this cobbled debacle, having a team in them helps me realise the sort of team you need to put out for them.
Bpost of course were strong, but I noticed that Pokerstars whilst strong didn't have that winner - some nuggety little performances from Koppert, Trilux, Saab, Rothaus and Focussed caught my eye also.
It also was a far more entertaining cobbled season than that one dimensional snooze fest (that goes for the Protour too) that we were treated to last year, a few more teams about, victories a lot more varied and the addition of some CDiv2's helped bump up the fields too.

I'd like to Vanspeybrouck strut his stuff in the PT. Enjoyed the race - crazy attack from Nolf. |

3 D2 teams in the breakaway way to fly the flag guys!
And Vanspeybrouck looked strong but surpriced nolf couldn't hang on at least untill the sprint. |

Except for wild cards (which I am sure to apply for), that just isn't happening. He was second at Gent Wevelgem this year though.
I'm so glad that I won one cobbled classic, even if I was hoping for more. A GC and a classic are enough to say that Vanspeybrouck had a strong season, if not necessarily as strong as last year.

Not bad in 9th. Best finish we've had for awhile, with a string of bad results.
Exciting the race though; congrats to BPost
