Back in January 2006 i was made Manager of Quick Step. So far this season we've had some fanstastic races. We did well on the Tour of Australia and the Het Volk an we also lead most of the Kurne - Brussel - Kurne
But now the UCI pro tour has begun our luck isn't great in the Paris - Nice
However we are currently in stage 2 i the Torreno - Adriatico and Tom Boonen is in the Overall Leaders jersey.
The second stage is tomorrow. Race report then |

The Ronde Van Vlaanderan went well for Quickstep again with 3 riders in the top 10 and with Tom Boonen winning. Tom boonen was told to attack on the Oude Kwardemont and he did. Here's a long report.
I was going to report to you on the Paris - Roubaix but i forgot to export the results! so here's a quick rundown on the action. Cancellara won the Paris - Roubaix by a great victory in the Velodrome in Roubaix, however Quick Step did have a strong race, the Domestiques controlled the peloton from KM 0 to the final sprint. Tom Boonen and Paolo Bettini attacked after about 100KM however Bettini came back to the peloton inside the last 10km. Boonen however got a fantastic 3rd place after running out of energy as we entered the velodrome
The next race on our calendar was the Amstel gold race which was a disappointing race for Quick Step as we were expecting a podium place. However though a good race for Bettini showing true strength bridging a 2minute gap in the last 15km however this wasn't enough to get to the leader.
1 Michael Boogerd RABOBANK 6h31'17
2 Mirko Celestino TEAM MILRAM + 1'02
3 Patrik Sinkewitz T-MOBILE TEAM + 1'22
4 Paolo Bettini QUICK STEP - INNERGETIC s.t.
5 Filippo Pozzato LIQUIGAS s.t.
6 Davide Rebellin GEROLSTEINER + 1'33
7 Matthias Kessler ASTANA + 1'45
8 Frank Schleck TEAM CSC + 2'03
9 Kim Kirchen T-MOBILE TEAM + 4'57
10 Christophe Brandt PREDICTOR - LOTTO + 6'08
Next up was la Fleche Wallonnie
This was another disappointing race with our best rider comming in at 23rd place about 8 minutes back. However he was in the breakaway groups (blame the slow moving peloton). Quick Step didn't try to control this race, however we were hoping for a slightly better result.
1 Axel Merckx T-MOBILE TEAM 5h22'16
2 Davide Rebellin GEROLSTEINER + 1'03
3 Mirko Celestino TEAM MILRAM s.t.
4 Matthias Kessler ASTANA s.t.
5 Kim Kirchen T-MOBILE TEAM + 1'43
6 Patrik Sinkewitz T-MOBILE TEAM s.t.
7 Vincenzo Nibali LIQUIGAS s.t.
8 Fabian Wegmann GEROLSTEINER + 1'59
9 Leonardo Bertagnolli LIQUIGAS s.t.
10 Manuele Mori SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR s.t.
Our final protour classic for April was the Liege - Bastogne - Liege which went dreadfully. Our best rider came in 33rd. Nothing more to say about this race really.
1 Davide Rebellin GEROLSTEINER 7h07'11
2 Mirko Celestino TEAM MILRAM + 55
3 Michael Boogerd RABOBANK + 1'13
4 Patrik Sinkewitz T-MOBILE TEAM + 2'10
5 Matthias Kessler ASTANA + 2'21
6 Björn Leukemans PREDICTOR - LOTTO + 4'27
7 Serge Baguet QUICK STEP - INNERGETIC + 5'45
8 Frank Schleck TEAM CSC + 5'56
9 Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver CAISSE D'EPARGNE s.t.
10 Philippe Gilbert FRANÇAISE DES JEUX s.t.
April has been a mixed month for Quick Step after a fantastic Ronde Van Vlaanderan and Ghent - Wevelgem. This weekend i've enrolled some of our riders into some Danish races to help me select my Giro squad and see who's fit enough to ride some of the tougher races comming up. I'll do a quick report on these danish races. (no pun intended) |

And so onto our Danish race. I must say it went well for Quick Step. We got a win on the cobbled race Grand Prix Herning. It all came down to a final breakaway attempt by us in the final 10km to help secure a win. And it worked quite well

I've managed to get Paolo Bettini to write a quick entry to all readers of my reports (fake paolo ) and then week 1 Giro report.
Paolo Bettini after Stage 5 of the Giro
Well as my race programe has always said i wanted to do the Giro d'Italia and the manager obviously listened to my request as i'm in the Team for the Giro. The first time trial went quite good for me, it set me up with the possibility of been race leader for a day or so. My first few stages went great with me now been in 15th on GC and climibing that ranking everyday. We have some quite vital days comming up soon and i've got to have a rest now. Talk again in Milan (maybe!)
We'd like to thank Paolo for doing that for us. As Paolo said the first week has gone well for us, no stage wins yet (like our sponsor wants) but we've not got to our speciallity yet and with no Tom Boonen (he wants to do the Tour de Belgique) we don't have much hope in Sprints.
other than that we've started looking around Spain, France, The Benelux for some of next years riders. |

Giro d'italia is over and i've got to Le Tour and i've finally caught up. The above was just from Memory
OK Bettini won stage 21 of the Giro in Milan which team manager doddy13 said 'Brilliant, words can't describe how happy we are to win this stage, this is perhaps the best stage to win in the Giro and we did it.' he went on to Joke 'Champ - Elyseeses in July'
Good results in the National Championships although not winning any of the races our riders were in the top 10 of every event so we were very happy about that.
Quick Step the sponsors of the team are very happy with the teams performance this season. |
