I'm having second thoughts as to who the team I should use for my team story should be. I was originally going to do Astana, and although they are still tempting, I'm not sure if I want to commit to them
I've narrowed it down to three teams, here they are.
Astana
The obvious one. They have some of my favorite riders (Kessiakoff, Vino, Brajkovic, Ponzi) and are a strong, solid team. I was a little disappointed they didn't release a new jersey for 2012, but still rate high.
BMC
A team that hasn't got much love on the story front, but adding Phil and Thor to Cadel's team is really tantalizing. But it's not just the big three, others like Pinotti, Tejay, Roe, Van Avermaet, Phinney would surely make a fun story.
Team Sky
An extremely popular story team, Sky are just great. I'd love to win the Tour with Wiggo, and EBH and Cav are very strong obviously. But the main reason I love Sky is there strong Aussie contingent. Mick Rogers, Matt Hayman, Chris Sutton and probably my favorite rider at the moment, Riche Porte. Also Froome, Rowe, Henao and the greatest climber in the world Danny Pate are all popular too.
It's a tough decision! Help me out!

My vote goes to Astana...stick with them....why?
Because they have your´s favourites riders and Astana is great for screens.

Ive gone with Astana too, good GC riders, but not awesome, and a good sprinter in Davis.

Do you mean Allan Davis? He's at GreenEDGE.
But Astana do have Jacopo Guarnieri (or Fabio Sabatini?) so they have a strong sprinter. Thanks for your vote!

Astana, it could make a great story, one last chance for Vino in the Tour, you would gain a lot of followers and it would be an uncommon story.

Not many stories around with them. BMC will be too good, and Sky even easier
If your having second thoughts though, maybe go with a continental team.

Well, it seems my first instinct was correct. Astana it is it seems, but I'll give it another day.
No matter who I choose, I'll start a new thread in a few days, and get ready to begin.

I think BMC is at the moment probably the worst team for a story. The reason: You can't overperform (if that is a word ). You would need to win every important hilly classic with Gilbert, finish at least on the podium in the Flandres classics with Hushovd and probably win the Tour with Evans. If you don't, you fail. If you do, it went well but not very, very well, because you "just" matched you goals. Plus: It's hard to really improve the squad. Except for maybe Cancellara and Contador
Long story short: Don't pick BMC!
Sky, well, Sky is already extremely popular, most riders are well known, etc. It would still make a nice story, I think, but it's not as interesting as Astana. Also, it was your first choice so as you said, follow your instict
If you're not convinced, though, it might be worth a thought to start with a stronger Conti team, as already suggested here.

Why? You have to be motivated to keep a story going, so pick the team or rider you want, else the motivation will drop. Ant to be honest, I'm getting a bit annoyd (annoying) by these requests, or people that start a thread weeks before the story starts. Please don't! (in general).

Thanks so much for all your input guys, especially cunego and dienbald for your helpful tips.
I've given up on BMC after cunego convinced me not to so I'm stuck with Astana and Sky.
I know Sky are popular but ARGH their team looks so nice! Can't choose!

Being popular is not at all an exclusion criterion. If you like the squad better, which to be honest seems to be the case here , then choose them. Because after all, I agree with dienblad: It's way more important that you like the team than that we like it.
€: I just remembered a quote I read somewhere sometime ago. It said something like "if you're in love with two people, pick the second one. If you really loved the first, you wouldn't have fallen for the second." I know that you're not in love But it kinda applies anyway. If you were really convinced to start with Astana, you would never have thought about starting with Sky. So maybe Sky would be the right choice.
But again, it's your decision, so I'll stop writing here now, for god's sake

Ok....imo if you wanted really to do a story,you should already know wich team you want,way before this happened...i still think you should go for Astana...the love for the team will come with time...i must agree with dienblad...this is starting to get annoying...

And baia, the only reason I made this thread was so my story can last as long as possible. I'm sorry if it's annoying, it just kinda embarrassing having so many stories fail, we just want one to work out.

Oh,finally someone who said it, i am thinking about the same for a week now, it is maybe five stories now, which even does not start and are 2,3 pages long
Your story-wise just use who you want as Cunego59 suggest, Astana would be great... BMC and SKY are just too strong
