Team Vorarlberg | Tour of Langkawi
stef98
After the story in June (https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....d_id=16738) I'm going to make a new story about Vorarlberg, with a little update in the stats and some new and talented riders like Preidler,Haller and Bissinger.
Furthermore I improved my english, I hope the story is now better to read.
Facts:

DB: Pcmdaily 12 Pre-Beta
Difficult: Hard

Let the story begins...
Hello and welcome to our teampresentation 2012! My name is Fritz and I'm going to escort you this evening.
At first our squad:
img835.imageshack.us/img835/8292/93811814.png
Well, we got some new riders, and we hope to win small races this year. But majority we want that our talents are going to develop very fast and have fun with cycling.

The changes:
Marco Haller
Georg Preidler
Thomas Rohregger

Thomas Rohregger
img585.imageshack.us/img585/342/rohri.png
Rohregger is our captain in stageraces and can hopefully win the Tour of Austria. Last year at Leopard-Trek he showed that he can ride pretty good at mountains and he is perfect for our team.

Georg Preidler
img233.imageshack.us/img233/314/preidla.png
Preidler rided very aggresive at last years Tour of Austria. He attacked very often and so we offer him a contract. He's got a huge talent, and he might be a winner in the World Tour.

Marco Haller
img707.imageshack.us/img707/9181/haller.png
This sprinter is amazing. He won all races in Austria in his youth. He got more then 25 Championschip. He became a 4th place in the U23 Worldchampionschip last year. You have to know he is just 20! I think he will be a new Cavendish. But it takes some time. He is our man for the sprints next to Weissinger.

But also the old captain is still in the team:
Rene Weissinger
img341.imageshack.us/img341/9852/weissi.png
He have a lot of experience and he is still our captain in Sprints. If Haller develope himself well, Weissinger will maybe be just the helper of Haller. We'll see.

We all together hope for a successful season and a good year 2012. Our first race will be Tour of Langkawi.

6.1.2012 - The big suprise!

The managers blog:

Hey Guys. I am writting here from Lucca,Italy. Our team is here on a 10 days training camp. I stayed up the whole night to negotiating with free riders. I took notice of Kim Kirchen, who is searching for a team after his heart disease, he would be the perfect team leader I thought. I called him and i offered him a contract about 20k, its the greatest possible salary I could offer him. He would also be the teamcaptain next to Rohregger. He wasn't thinking long and so he sign the contract. But he is not available to join our trainingscamp in Italy. He is going to train in Peru. I hope he could hold his great quality in the mountains two years ago.
His stats:
img829.imageshack.us/img829/4945/21919490.png

Of course he can ride the TT as well as the mountain, so I think he'll be a good captain and I hope he can win some bigger races like Tour of Langkawi or Tour of California. I have to admit that I didnt believe that he really was going to join the team. Its also an important point that he is speaking fluently German. But now we have to win some money to pay the salary of Kirchen.

20.1.2012 - I don't believe it...

The managers blog:

Hey guys, we're back from Italy, I have to say some riders have a great form. I've checked my e-mails a few minutes ago. I got a message from the sponsor, and I really had to love about the team objects. You won't believe it but we have to get the maillot jaune at Tour de France! I just have to say... lol! I think our teams won't get a Wildcard so thats greatly exaggerated.
I've also read that the sponsor will get off of our contract and we have to search for another sponsor. It will be hard I think. Another team object is to get a TOP 5 place in Tour of Suisse+Romandie. If we are very lucky and the squad have got a perfect form we maybe could manage this with Kirchen or Rohregger, but it will be very, very hard.

About the new sponsor, I ordered a scout to search for new sponsors, primary with a lot of money in Middle Europe to get the team to World Tour.
I think with Kirchen,Rohregger and Haller we got a really good chance to fight for the climb to WT.

Tomorrow the flight to Malaysia starts, at Tour of Langkawi are included: Rohregger,Kirchen,Haller,Konrad,Hofer,Gaugl and Jenny.
At the teams homepage there are race reports and a few opinions of the riders.

This stage was absolutly flat!
The break of the day build a 12 riders group. Konrad was in the group. But they can't unite and so the Peleton caught the group 20 km later. But Konrad wasn't that enough so he attacked again.

A new 3 mens break built. Konrad wanted to win the KoM. So he save his energy in the sprint for the points. But the group caught 1km before the KoM. So Konrad stayed in the Peleton.

15km to go another gruop attacked. It seems to be a strong and they get a big gap. The worked really good together and so Shimano (1t4i) had to work. But the didnt relly worked together so the group got more then 2 minutes.

5km before finish, Strgar and Haller postioned and Degenkolbs wheel. The break in the front was going to win, but we still wanted a good position in the masssprint. In the front the break splitted and so only 4 riders fight for the win. Finally it takes K.Wu from Champion Systems.Haller ended 8th and won the sprint in the pack.

Final Result:

24.1.2012 - A perfect day

Marco Haller's Blog:

www.gin-n-juice.com/flags/malaysien.jpg Tour of Langkawi - Stage 2

img42.imageshack.us/img42/511/21839379.png

Hey guys, today was a stage for me. A hilly finish and a perfect distance for a cycling race. My 7th place yesterday is worthy of improvement.

We send A.Hofer in the break of the day. 4 other riders were also in the group and so they get a gap of 1:00 after ten kilometers.
5 km before the KoM Hofer attacked and the the others were falling back in the main group.
Hofer won at the top of the hill and get 6 points. His job was done and he went back to the pack. K.Wu is still in the mountain jersey with 8 points.

A few kilometers before the intermediate sprint, another group of 2 riders attacked. They get the points there, 3rd became Cardoso, I didn't sprinted with them for only 1 point, I saved my energy. The gap between the break and the pack was about 2:20 mins. Then Hofer worked hard for us. And get the gap down to 1:20. Suddenly Dimitry Ignatiev attacked we didn't get worried and we followed our tactic.

70km before the finish I noticed that I had great legs and i felt very good and strong. D.Ignatiev moved up to the break. Then another rider, Caddeo, from Colnago, attacked. He never reached the group and he get caught 20kms to the finish. The break had 46 seconds to the pack. Caja Rural and 1t4i made a lot of work and made a fast pace. 9 km before the finish the last riders from the group was caught by 1t4i. There I had to stick on Strgar and he had to find the best wheel.

Finally he get the wheel of Cardoso, the favourite for this day. I fightet for Strgars backwheel and I could hold it. 4kms to go the pack splitted in 2 big groups some famous riders in the second were Hofer, the leader K.Wu,Arroyo,Vorganov,Lopez and T.Fothen.
3kms to go I was in a perfect postion and I felt so great. Strgar could hold Cardoso's wheel and I was going to make a perfect race. 2kms to go Strgar went out and started to sprint. He made a perfect train for me, and went out at the flame rouge, I gave my best, but 400m before the finish my energy was gone and Degenkolb and Blot passed me. At the end Cardoso win, 2nd Degenkolb, 3rd Blot and I got the stupid 4th place, it was a great race but its really bad to loose if you're in a great position to win.

Final Result:
Spoiler
1 Manuel Cardoso Caja Rural 4h14'21
2 John Degenkolb Project 1t4i s.t.
3 Guillaume Blot Bretagne - Schuller s.t.
4 Marco Haller Team Vorarlberg s.t.
5 Steven Van Vooren Topsport Vlaanderen - Mercator s.t.
6 Ángel Vicioso Katusha Team s.t.
7 Steven Tronet BigMat - Auber 93 s.t.
8 René Obst Team NSP - Ghost s.t.
9 Alexander Khatuntsev RusVelo s.t.
10 Aaron Kemps Champion System Pro Cycling Team s.t.
11 Aitor Galdos Caja Rural s.t.
12 Yury Trofimov Katusha Team s.t.
13 Matic Strgar Team Vorarlberg s.t.
14 Yann Huguet Project 1t4i s.t.
15 Thomas Rohregger Team Vorarlberg s.t.
16 Kim Kirchen Team Vorarlberg s.t.

17 Fabricio Ferrari Caja Rural s.t.
18 Simon Spilak Katusha Team s.t.
19 Filippo Savini Colnago - CSF Inox s.t.

After checking the result I realized that also Rohregger and Kirchen get a good place. Tomorrow is the last flat stage before the mountains.

Greetings Marco!

Today was another bunch sprint stage on the programm. Normally it would be a stage for Haller.

The break of the day built a 9 riders group. They caught more then 2:00 mins at the KoM. It won Parisien from Spidertech. 5 kms later the intermediate sprint won the swedish Wetterhall. At km 50 the break get more then 4 minutes to the bunch. At the second intermediate sprint Wetterhall won again. 50 kms to go, the break get more then 6 minutes to the bunch. But they didnt worked, and so the group get more and more gap. 40km to go, the bunch waked up and began to work, quickly the gap sinked.
At kilometer 10 to go, a mass crash happened in the bunch. But there weren't some famous riders involved.

5kms to go the group had a gap about 45 seconds. Haller and Strgar sticked again at Cardoso's wheel. 1km to go, it was clear that again a break win. Finally the win take Mazzanti. Haller wasnt in such a kind of good position as yesterday and so he finished as 11th.

26.1.2012 - The first mountain of the year

Kirchen's Blog:
www.gin-n-juice.com/flags/malaysien.jpg Tour of Langkawi - Stage 4

img708.imageshack.us/img708/333/62310426.png

Hey guys. Today it was the first hard challange for me and for my new team! The first mountain of the year and the first hard stage for me. The flat stage was just a warm-up for me.

Rohregger was as the last stages my protecter and personal helper. The weather was sunny and hot. Our tactic was to attack together at km 90, a few kilometers before the top of the first mountain.

The break of the day build 8 riders. They sprinted for points at the intermediate. I don't remeber who won it, but in the bunch I was nex to Haller,Rohregger and Strgar in a great position. Konrad was allowed to attack at the first mountain if he want. He did it at the first sloping upwards. He quick get a gap of a minute. I really hoped that he could help us later. 45 kms to go, I decided to attack with Rohri, he accepted it and helped me perfect.

After 2 kms we came to Konrad. But he couldn't help, us he was "dead". Then Movistar tried to attack but the bunch didnt let them away. And so we get a gap about 1 minute.Huguet from 1t4i joined our group of 3 there. 3 kms to go for the first mountain, the break was stil one minute in front of us. Rohregger did a great work. A the top, two riders of the break fell back to us. 28 kms to go the amalgamation had done. Together we were in a 14 men group. Rohregger and I decided to attack again there. In the back the favourites attacked and they were a minute behind us. So we had to go quick away from the old breakaway. But Rohregger hadn't energy any more, he still was in my group but he couldn't help me. I heared that also Haller was in the favourite group.

Suddenly Vorganov attacked and I reattacked. I couldn't follow him good and so there was a gap about 10 seconds. You have to remember he was involved in the masscrash and had about 4 minutes in the GC. Spilak and Pardilla joined us. The bunch was only 30 seconds behind us. Haller was still there also Rohregger. Also Fothen joined us. Rohregger attacked in the back and could come away and tried to come to my group. 1km to go for the top of the second mountain I lost my energy and lost a little time to the group in front. Also Duarte and De la Fuente were coming in the back. I am not in a good shape at the moment, that was the reason I think. 2 kms to go I tried my best to come back in the group, but i couldn't. So Pardilla won in front of Spilak. I think Rohregger and i attacked a little bit to early. I ended 5th, Rohregger 7th and Haller who was still in the favourite group ended 14th. In the end I lost more than 52 seconds.
