Whenever i try and load a .nif helmet, i always get an error (block 8, string too long)
or for a bike frame (block 10 string too long)
What's the problem? and can anyone tell me how to solve it?

Are you loading PCM11 equipment? If so, that might be the problem. |

Hey, is it still possible to open PCM11 graphic files in NifSkope? Or is there a better way to get a preview of things like helmets and frames?

Yes - you can open them in NifSkope without any issues.
Think the bundled cyclist viewer is a quicker easier way to do it now though... |

Click "Load" and find the 3D file
You can drag the graphic file from e.g. your desktop to the 3D file.

When I drag my .nif file into NifSkope, this pops up:
"failed to load block number 8 (NiFloatsExtraData) previous block was NiTriShape"
"failed to load nif from 'C:/Users/Anders/Desktop/Helmet_sax.nif'"

The file you have to drag is the .tga graphic file.

Never mind about that file, it works with all the other .nif files And the file that didn't worked is .nif as well. Ok now I got my helmet into NifSkope, but when is shows up, there is only a pure white helmet ??

Now you have the white helmet (sometimes it happens that two 3D files open - are the two or just one? - if two, right click on one of them/Block/Remove).
Now you can drag the graphic file to the 3D file.

Search the "Block List" and right-click on "NiSource Texture" (there should be a purple flower next to it). Then go to "texture" --> "choose" and choose the _d file of the helmet you want to see.

That is another way to do it but it works just the same.
Anders: I don't understand that the dragging thing doesn't work? But then try to do what felix says. Maybe that works everytime.

The way I've always done it is open the .nif file with NifSkope.
Once open if you want to change the texture loaded click on the little purple star thing showing in this picture.
By the way, if you want to save it so it automatically loads up the 'new' texture, re-save or save the .nif file out with a new name.
Cyclist viewer is better I think though now. |
