Fayetteville - The United States' strongest U23 rider, Russ Bennett, has decided to turn pro with French team Saur-Sojasun
Bennett [University of Arkansas] is one of the most decorated collegiate cyclists, as well as one of the best U23 in the world. Having been college's number one cyclist for the past 3 years, this past season turned out to be Russ's top year with 18 wins in 30 races participated. He has also finished 4th in the U23 world road race after winning the CCNC [Collegiate Cycling National Championship], both US U23 road race and time trial crowns, and has been a perennial top 5 finisher in the past 3 U23 Worlds.
"I'm really excited to join Saur. I feel that I could make an immediate impact and just get the hang of racing in the Pro Tour without having to race those guys all the time."
While at Arkansas, Russ first made national headlines after fighting a fellow cyclist over a crash in his first CCNC. Russ was suspended by the USA Cycling for 2 months after getting into a scuffle with Stephen Brock [University of Texas].

I've been pretty busy, so sorry on the lack of updates. I'll get started on it as soon as I can, but it promises to have a lot of rider drama to it [something that is never seen on the stories I've read]. |
