The final stage of the Tour of Turkey is without a doubt the least interesting of them all. None of the hills are even slightly challenging and there isn’t a single intermediate point along the way, not even a sprint.

Due to the pan-flat nature of this course it is unsurprising that the biggest sprinters here go in as the favourites. Names such as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Corioni are thrown around, as well as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Vingerling, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Borrajo and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Abdallah. The other interesting contest to watch is the performance of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Sagan, who is within striking distance of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Kessler’s green jersey, and has been sprinting like a man possessed.

Given the flat nature of the course the break aren’t really considered much of a chance, but as always there are intrepid riders willing to give it a go. The first two off the bat are i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Sandy Casar and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Arman Kamyshev.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-2.jpg

Two riders ride off after them pretty rapidly, and these men are i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Rob Ruijgh and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Maxim Belkov, who was in yesterday’s break. Clearly he has something good in the legs and doesn’t want to waste his fine form while he has it. The four riders join together up front and no one is really too concerned about any of them so they are allowed to form the break of the day.

A lot of teams want this to end as a sprint today so there is a good deal of sharing up front with Saab, California Giant, Venchi and Rapha doing the majority of the work.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-3.jpg

The gap gets out to a maximum of 8’30” with about 100km still to go before Rapha hit the front and start to raise the tempo a bit, with a small amount of help from WWE. They continue to drive the pace alone, and are clearly very confident in Abdallah’s ability.

Skipping ahead to 20km to go, the gap is down to just over 1 minute but things are shaken up a bit as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Francesco Reda jumps out of the pack.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-4.jpg

However his plan of joining the group and helping them to the finish line is foiled because just as he goes, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Casar decides he is better off alone and sets off away from his breakaway companions. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Ruijgh chases on to his back wheel.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-5.jpg

Reda manages to pull the second group of the breakaway back up to Casar and Ruijgh but it is just delaying the inevitable as the pack swallows them all up, with WWE at their head. The chase proved too much for this team, however, and they can’t form a lead-out train, though Vingerling is still well placed. There is only one long train today, headed by Rapha. In order the line is:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Partridge
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Dowsett
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Abdallah
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Vingerling
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Borrajo
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Galimzyanov
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/saab.png Van Hummel
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Hopman

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-6.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Partridge peels off and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Dowsett leads out the sprint. However, he is not able to last too long at the front, largely because he is not a sprinter and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Abdallah is forced to open up his sprint from a very long way out.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-7.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Galimzyanov starts to come around i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Borrajo at speed, and boxes the Argentine in somewhat.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-8.jpg

With 800 metres to go, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Galimzyanov hits the front at high speed as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Vingerling finally comes around the fading i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Abdallah, who is blocking i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/saab.png Van Hummel from coming forward. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Hopman has come from behind the melee at the front and has some real speed.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-9.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Hopman comes past i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Borrajo and is looking good, but a gap opens up for the Unicredit sprinter. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Vingerling is closing in on i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Galimzyanov.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-10.jpg

Can he make it?!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-11.jpg

Vingerling raises his arms in victory! WWE have put in so much work for him in the past few stages and it is great to see that finally rewarded.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-12.jpg

It is a photo finish for 2nd, but Borrajo was just able to sneak through that gap and wins it by a fraction of a wheel length over Galimzyanov. Hopman just couldn’t make the podium and will have to be content with 4th.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game/8-13.jpg

Van Hummel rides in as 5th, with Corioni an anonymous 6th, Keisse 7th, Beppu a surprise 8th, Abdallah a disappointing 9th and Bernucci in 10th, once again making it 2 Unicredit riders in the top 10.

Once again a small group was detached in the final run-in and once again it contains some lesser GC riders. The highest on the list are i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Grmay, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Jacques-Maynes and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Pasamontes. It is likely a mix of fatigue and the slight cross wins in the finale that caused these riders to lose just a little over a minute.

Finally, Sagan’s 11th was not good enough to take the points jersey off Keisse, who managed 14th on this stage and thus only lost 3 points on the young talent. No change at the top of the overall leaves i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Tom Zirbel as the overall winner. His team also manage to win the team classification, despite the rather disappointing rides from their GC contenders. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Petr Ignatenko wins the mountain jersey and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Peter Sagan is the deserving winner of the young rider competition.
