Vuelta a la Region de Murcia - Stage 3
ember
i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Murciastage3.jpg

It's the final stage of this intense race. A 12 kilometers long, flat time trial will decide the overall winner. You must fancy
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pendletons.png David Zabriskie
for both the stage win and the overall win. But the same can be said about
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Taylor Phinney.
But the time trial is only 12 kilometers long, could
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/sonyericson.png Yuri Trofimov
prove that the 20 bonus seconds he got yesterday will be decisive for the outcome? But there's plenty of other great time trialists that want this stage win. One of yesterday's loosers
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/milka.png Jerome Coppel
will certainly look for revenge today, and he can only hope that a stage win will help to improve his overall position with a lot.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/jackwolfskin.png Robert Gesink is also a strong contender for a podium place overall, but he will need a great time trial to do that, as he's on the same time as Zabriskie and Phinney.

Also, there's no time check on this time trial, meaning we won't know a thing about how they're doing before they actually cross the line. It should definitely be a thriller for the spectators!

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Navardauskas.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/festina.png Navardauskas is first out of many good time trialists. Festina has had a terrible Vuelta Murcia, and he's probably their best shot for a good stage result today. At least he posts an early benchmark, flying the course in 16'18.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Ford.jpg

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/VanWinden.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Ford, who is a national champion, is the first challenger for Navardauskas' time, and he goes 10 seconds faster than Navardauskas, clocking 16'08 and the provisional lead.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/jackwolfskin.png Van Winden follows, and he shows that this course is great for Dutchmen, going 3 seconds better than Ford. This looks promising for Gesink, he should get great feedback about the course now. Van Winden's time is 16'05.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Johansson.jpg

A Swede is our next challenger, but
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/sonyericson.png Johansson doesn't have it today. He's clocking the same time as Navardauskas, 16'18, 13 seconds behind Van Winden, which is good enough for a provisional 5th.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Mottin.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/nestle.png Mottin is next. A great time trialist, but he's a few seconds short of the provisional lead, coming home in 16'08, the very same time as Ford.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Fiedler.jpg

His team mate,
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/nestle.png Fiedler is known to be slightly better than Mottin on the time trial bike. And he shows that yet again here, blitzing home in 16'03, taking the lead with 2 seconds!

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Abal.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/colombia.png Abal is next. He was disappointing yesterday, meaning he starts the day 54th overall, 1'23 behind Ponzi & Trofimov. He can only hope to go a minute better than most of the weaker time trialists that starts later. But he is 7 seconds slower than Fiedler, holding a provisional fifth, at 16’09.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Coppel.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/milka.png Coppel is next, and he's looking fast, only having 600 meters left when Abal crossed the line. And indeed, he's very fast. He blasts home in 15'45, meaning he's 18 seconds faster than Fiedler. That could prove enough for the stage win, but how high will he climb on the overall list? At least it's an incredible performance, that's for sure!

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Plaza.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/jackwolfskin.png Plaza is the first rider of those on +20 seconds before the stage that could go high on the GC, thanks to his great abilities on the time trial bike. His time is good, but not great, he’s 14 seconds behind Coppel, provisional 2nd, on 15’59.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Kangert.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Kangert, the Estonian champion, is next of decent time trialists, but it looks like he’s having a bad day, clocking 16’17, 32 seconds behind Coppel.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Zabriskie.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pendletons.png Zabriskie is the next one that needs to be mentioned. In fact, he doesn’t need to be mentioned, he has to be mentioned! An incredible performance, crushing Coppel’s time with no less than 21 seconds! His time of 15’23 is going to be hard to beat, if not impossible.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Intxausti.jpg

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Karpets.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Intxausti
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/nestle.png Karpets
are both good on the time trial bike, but they're nowhere near the Zabriskie's time. Intxausti clocks 16'09, Karpets is a bit better, he manages to stop the clock on 16'06.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Gesink.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/jackwolfskin.png Gesink is next. He's hoping for a podium place overall, but his time of 15'57 might not be enough for that. At least it's enough for a provisional 3rd on the stage. But he's a huge 34 seconds behind Zabriskie, Zabriskie's time looks impossible to beat.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Dekker.jpg

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Schumacher.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/spyker.png Dekker
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ubs.png Schumacher
are next. None of them are convincing, Dekker goes fastest of them, he comes home in 16'08, while Schumacher clocks 16'22. With his performance, Schumacher might drop some places in the overall classification, from his 12th before the stage.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Phinney.jpg

World Champion,
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Phinney is the only left that can challenge Zabriskie for the stage win. But he doesn't come anywhere close, he's 1 second behind Coppel, clocking 15'46, meaning he's beaten with 23 seconds by Zabriskie.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Tenorio.jpg

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/LLS.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/santander.png Tenorio then follows, the Spaniards are really cheering for him, but it doesn't help. He's an eternity behind Zabriskie, crossing the line in 15'59. But it should be good enough for a top 5 overall, depending on what Trofimov does.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cerne.png L. L. Sanchez is also on home soil, his time trial abilities are great compared to those he usually fights against, in the Continental Tour. But today, in the Pro Tour, he's quite a bit behind Zabriskie. But so is everyone else. He clocks 16'16, giving him a provisional 23rd.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Trofimov.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/sonyericson.png Trofimov, the final challenger for Zabriskie's overall win is also coming to he finish line. The speaker is counting down for him in the last 600 meters, but there's nothing to count for, when the speaker screams "0," he's nowhere to be seen. But it's not a bad time trial from Trofimov, it's actually a pretty good one. He clocks 16'06, 43 seconds behind Zabriskie, but it's good enough for a provisional 10th, saying everything about Zabriskie's performance.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Ponzi.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wiggle.png Ponzi, our final contender isn't very comfortable on the time trial bike, this was never meant to be a stage for him. He gives it everything he can, and comes home in 16'51, meaning he will drop to 17th overall.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/Zabriskiepodium.jpg

Zabriskie can celebrate his oustanding performance, which gave him both the stage win and the overall win. A huge win for Pendleton's Twicer!
