Presidential Tour of Turkey Discussion
CountArach
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/2012%20Routes/turkey.png

The Presidential Tour of Turkey is an 8 day race that favours the puncheurs. It starts with a prologue and that is followed by three hilly stages and then another 4 stages that are notionally flat. Given that it is only a C1 race many of the best puncheurs are absent.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Matthis Kessler goes into this race as the favourite. He is very strong in the hills and can also ride a time trial decently well. He hasn’t got too much in the way of hilly support, however, with only Fahnert who can really stick it out to the end.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Samuel Sanchez has been sent by his California Giant team as their leader and he has a great team around him. Pasamontes should achieve a good result in his own right, as well as Ghyllebert, who should be able to drive the pace when needed. California Giant has a win goal here so will really be looking for Sanchez to come through.

The next team worth discussing is Cyclevox, whose i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Ignas Konovalovas goes in as one of the favourites. He isn’t the best puncheur in the field but the time trial should really suit him and may allow him to get enough of a gap on some of the best puncheurs that he can afford to lose some time later on. Sandy Casar gives them a second card to play for a decent GC position. Cyclevox really needs to perform here if they are to fight their way off the bottom of the table.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Ben Hermans is Rothaus’ man for the GC. He has a great team around him with Iglinski, Passeron and Ruijgh all capable of minor placings of their own accord. This is considered an important race by the team manager and the team goes in hoping for a top 5 overall.

Though he doesn’t go in as a favourite it is hard to underestimate Venchi’s i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Cesare Di Maggio. He has a couple of decent riders around him, such as Sagan, and he will struggle in the time trial, but he is a strong enough puncheur that he should be able to perform well.

Several teams have come here to focus on the opening prologue in the hope of a stage victory and an early yellow jersey. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Ian Stannard is just one such man, though with Dowsett in his team Rapha can still hope for a strong GC placing. Time trialist i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/saab.png Johan Lindgren leads his team as does i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert-1.png Ronan Van Zandbeek. WWE meanwhile will hope that i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Thomas Voeckler can pull something out of the bag, or that Hayden Roulston can perform well in the time trial. Tinkoff and Meiji seem to be making up the numbers, though both will perhaps hope for results in sprints or out of breakaways.

It`s my first "important" race. So my squad should do well here.
The prologue is pretty short, so I am interested in Di Maggio`s performance here.

Also I am very worried of the 6th stage. Hermans is one of the weakest climbers within the puncheurs and the slopes there are always around 20%, so I hope, there won`t be splits with Rothaus riders behind.

And Baumann has to show something here, otherwise there is no reason to have a sprinter next season. Wink

Get well soon. Wink

Baumann had no real chance to show himself. Wink
Vantomme in De Panne and Cucinotta in the early races were disappointing.

I don`t expect anything from Baumann and Gajek as they are the weakest of these 4.
But I hope they are good lead-out riders for Vantomme. Wink

Still I hope that he can grab some points.

Good luck with your first race CountArach!

I had planned to participate in this one with Reus, but it simply took too many race-days, so good luck to everyone participating, I have to say I think (but don't hope) that Samuel Sanzhez will win ;-)

Hopefully, this will be the turning point of our season; largely absent for most races last month, and failed in those we partook. Going in as one of the favourites has given me a massive boost in confidence that we can haul our butts from the bottom of the table.

I only wish the prologue was a little longer.

Also, get well soon, Count Grin

The podium should be possible but Sanchez should win with Pasamontes as support. I hope there won´t be a breakaway with the eventual GC winner.

And of course, take your time to get wellWink

Not too high hopes here. A stage win will be what I am hoping for.

Levi4life
I'm betting Kessler wins. My team actually achieving a goal is a little too far fetched.

Guess this isn´t the race that we are collecting most points Pfft

I have high hopes for everything but the TT. Di Maggio and Corioni should be able to deliver some good results.

Hey guys, there's the opening stage. Feel free to let me know what was and wasn't good, I'm happy to change my style a bit.

Was a good mix of overall and stage favourites. Enjoyed the report.

Also enjoyed a good start by Hermans. Haven`t lost too much on Konovalovas, Sanchez and Kessler and ahead of most other puncheurs.

Now the hilly stages must decide.

Great report! Normally get bored of TT reports, but thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.

Excellent performance from my team, I feel. Three in top 20, and having Konovalovas ahead of the other big favourites is always nice. Hopefully, it turns into an advantage rather than a disadvantage. Casar up there too Grin

I liked the report. And I should probably be honored that you even consider Voeckler as a GC rider.. Pfft Not too bad result for Roulston, either.

felix_29
Good stage report, maybe the screenshots should be more from the side (as di Maggio´s is) and not from the front/back but that´s only my opinion.

Kessler hadn´t his best day, he obviously saved some energy for the next two stages.

Sykkel_Freak
21 seconds to Konovalovas is not so bad. Wink

Also liked the report. Smile

Di Maggio is my pick for the win overall after keeping the deficit so low.
