After a slightly surprising win for
Damien Gaudin
at the Nokere - Koerse cobbled classic. The specialist cobbled teams will be itching to get a better result at this more selective looking route.
The good news for Bpost and Koppert is that their riders performed very well in the recent Protour classic down the road at Gent Wegelum. In particular
Pieter Vanspeybrouck
who attacked the really big names of cobbled cycling late on. It was this attacking instinct that won him so many race last year, he really needs to show the others a clean pair of heels again as he is against a number of decent cobbler/sprinters like
Adam Blythe
Matti Breschel
Roger Kluge
and
Tom Veelers
The Belgian race authorities have been keen to involve a few CDiv2 teams and welcome the likes of Dyson and Samsung Mol to the race who star riders are from Belgium and just may make a nuisance of themselves. Certainly
Robby Meul
and
Tijs Crombez
may just sneak a decent result if they can follow the more elevated company.
T.CS Bank, Jayco Red Bull and Trilux may also make an impact with some decent cobbled talent. Rothaus, Venchi and Proximus look a little light of specialist talent and will hope for a surprising breakaway package.

Cobble races are boring :-p I'm not participating ;-)
To be more serious, I think it's time to see a Vanspeybrouck victory, afterall he pretty much only had to show up last year to win the cobble races...

More Div2 teams getting wildcards, cool.

Can we take another podium place but with Breschel and not Hushovd this time? Maybe to much to hope for, would be very pleased even with top 5.
Maybe to much hills on this course to fit Breschel/Hushovd perfectly. |

Maybe Rast can surprise here with his good hill stat. Anyway, at least one rider of Trilux have to finish in the Top10, or this is a disaster for me.

Ariesen better wins this race.
Probably my weakest squad in the whole calendar.
I expect Blythe to win in a sprint of less than 10 riders or Vanspeybrouck attacking. |

I better don´t expect much, just hope for normal cobble race, when riders with most skill under 60 won´t be able to stay in peloton until finish...

Well this is my win goal so it is really a make or break race for us - Vanspeybrouck better show what he can do!

After a slightly disappointing Nokere - Koerse, I'm really hoping for a great race now. Hard to predict the winner, Blythe is probably the favourite, thanks to his solid sprint, but he might get isolated a bit too quick if Bpost, Koppert and Pokerstars.com makes it a hard race early on.

Hopefully the curse of cobble races that seems to have befallen much of this season will give way, and we'll have a non-shock winner. Personally, I'm rooting for BPost or Koppert to put in a good show.

Great report, good results, that´s what i want to see. Congrats to Koppert, Bpost might not be too happy with the sprint.

That was a good race I think, an early selection, and then Bpost really hammered it on the final cobbled sections. Albert showed great strength over several cobbled sections. CountArach can't be happy how they messed up the sprint though. They better hope they finish it off in a better way in E3 Prijs.
On the other hand, that was a very nice win for Koppert, looks like they definitely will be a force in E3 aswell.
And I enjoyed the report Smowz, nice reading! |

Nice report, Smowz.
Just hoped that Velits, Willems or Ariesen would have been in the break to get a a top30 in the end. Novak wasn`t the best solution.
So it took ~5 pics before all my riders lost contact to the peloton.
Koppert with a nice win, Van Impe with a great ride and Bpost very dominant but too less in the end as also Breschel, who went too early.
Btw: Any influence of not finishing a race for the XP system? Especially for GT`s it would be interesting.

last season Kluge crashed at 1st stage of Irish Tour (PT) and received XPs for whole race (if I remember well )
I guess much better gameplay here, congrats to Koppert for fantastic win

Well this can only be considered an unmitigated disaster. The race was in the palm of our hand and all we had to do was attack with Vanspeybrouck or Maes in the finale. None of the remaining riders could have followed them at that point but sprinting it out at the end put everyone back in the game.
Congrats to the Koppert guys though and comiserations to Blythe.
